IRL Opinion, Razer Chimaeras Vs. Sennheiser PC350

post #1 of 13

Please keep all fanboyism out of of this as I want honest reviews here. I know OCN can do it. thumb.gif

I've previously purchased both Razer Chimaera headsets (Stereo and 5.1) and found them to all around wonderful headsets for gaming but for music I'm not so sure, As I find myself on the PC all the time now I listen to wayy more music and was wondering if the PC350 would provide and Exceptionally big boost in sound quality over my Stereo Chimaeras. I would like some advice from previous chimaera user if at all possible. I have the money on hand for the PC350 or anything else anybody would recommend. I have a $200 budget for headphones and I need to know whether or not the questionable upgrade would be worth the money. I would prefer to find a cheaper pair of headphones that would still provide a better experience than the stereo Chimaeras I'm currently using.

Sennheiser PC350 ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106219

Another Side note is that I use these headphones in 6~12 hour intervals each day and they need to last like these chimaeras have, Just for an example I've used these Chimaeras so much that the paint is starting to come off. tongue.gif

sennheisers are for sure better in this category they are able to hit the high and lows better the only thing i could see your headset being better at is base. However, i would also like to say the upgrade isn't worth it right now because the Razer Chimaera are not bad headphones. I am sure though that the sennheisers are more comfy.

If you have a nice sound card with a headphone amp that can do around 150 ohms then Sennheiser PC350 no contest.

Lol yeah these chimaeras do have decent bass and these also make my ears sweat on occasion but other than that these headphones are quite comfortable. I was just inquiring if they would sound better or really be worth the $180 price tag in performance over these chimaeras. I've been looking up reviews and they all say the PC350s lack bass, While I listen to music 85% of the time I do like a some bass to my music.

Would an AMP really make a difference cause Myself not being very knowledged in audio tech figured that all it would is increase the volume. confused.gif

Not sure at this point whether it's the onboard audio of the computer I'm building/testing for a friend or not but I'm Beginning to observe "Crackling and Popping" in the audio over my chimaeras It just started occurring yesterday so I'll have to reconnect my sig rig and find out and then I'll let you all know.

also I literally just bought my sennheiser 350 less than a week ago from ebay brand new for 95$. Amazon has them for 150$ and also if your budget is around 20$ i would definitely look at astro a40s

If you get high end headphones without an amp your handcuffing yourself. How the sound gets to the headphones is just as important as the headphones themselves. Amps do more than just raise the volume (search impedance) and a lot of high end headphones require an amp to drive them correctly. If you have no intention of getting a sound card or headphone amp then I wouldn't bother upgrading.

This happened to my Chimaeras after I ran the cord over with my computer chair.

And the PC350s are not one of them.

Get the 360s if you can instead. Much better.
