Upgrading to a Visiontek radeon 6850

Thread Starter
I was wondering if my 500w power supply will be enough to run the Visiontek 6850 and a Phenom II x4 945 (which i will also be upgrading to) along with 4 more gb of ram?

my power supply is not a well known brand but it has run strong for 4 months it is called a rocketfish gaming psu.the whole point of the question is that I am hoping to not have to upgrade the psu again since I am on a limited budget

The Rocketfish 500w powersupply is an excellent PSU. It should have no problem with a 6850 + Phenom II X4.

if it was me i would not run it on that unit.... to much is at stake! i mean it would most likely work but for how long? lol, its up to you though dude if your not looking to spend to much on a new psu here is a great one redface.gif

The rocketfish PSU is not 500w, its equal to about 390w only.
If your on a budget, then you will have to increase it.

Rockertfish PSU are just crap. Do you work for them and BestBuy.
Plus I would never buy a PSu that only comes with a 1 year warranty.

Here is a review of the 700w version.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2008/05/13/getting_best_buy_on_power_supply/8
"The Rocketfish RF-700WPS on the other hand, while still a poor unit at its advertised output, would make a mediocre 550w power supply. However, the unit’s 700w claim, bad DC output quality, and atrocious pricing of $164.99 makes this unit something to avoid at all costs as well.

Our best suggestion to the hardware enthusiast is this. If you end up at Best Buy and have to buy a power supply then and there, you are best sticking to the brand names of Antec, BFGTech, and Thermaltake that Best Buy happens to carry. You will likely “over pay,” but that is a far cry better than getting “under delivered” in terms of the power supply that you will have plugged into all that hardware that cost you your hard earned cash. For the rest of you, if you catch your buddy with a Rocketfish or Dynex PSU stuffed in their case at the next LAN you attend, make sure he is properly ostracized after giving them a link to this review."
