Upgrading to a Visiontek radeon 6850 - Page 3

Keep in mind the thing about CPU, GPU and HDD is they use the +12v rail and it needs to have a sufficent number of amps. The 6850 needs 25A on at least a 450W PSU. If you ever Crossfire two of them, you'll need 35A and a minimum of 600W PSU.

Who said the 500W is an excellent PSU.

I might have overstated it's case by calling it excellent, but it's definately enough PSU for a 6850.

Just cause it says 500w, dont mean its true. if remembered correctly the 500w Rocketfish is OEM from Huntkey, based on there 400/450w version.
Plus not sure which version he got for 500w or how old it is.

Your upgrading, then get a good PSU. Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, XFX (Seasonic made), Antec, Enermax.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with VisionTek Support. If you can, buy a different brand. And don't take this as the one guy with one bad experience. Anyone who I've ever seen contact VT, it is atrocious. VT make's decent stuff, but figure it an OEM product with a 30-day warranty, via newegg or where ever you purchased it.

your not guaranteed that it will work, due to being a custom made mob for HP.
Unless the current bios on the board supports that chip. Calling AMD is not going to help, as they wont know which version your mobo bios is.
You need to contact HP instead, and ask them.

Dom't listen to all the noobs.

Your 500w PSU is plenty enough to run the 6850. Your motherboard also will support the 960t. You don't need to worry about anything. You certainly don't need a 700w psu like a certain someone recommended.

Was going to buy it from tigerdirect.com since they are the only ones who had the visiontek model of the 6850
