HD 6990 BIOS Flash - I've made the impossible!

Thread Starter
Hi everyone.

Just a couple of days ago i've tried to flash my ASUS Radeon HD6990 (reference).
First, i backed up both BIOS (master and slave) and then i made some changes with RBE (changed the memory speed).
At last i run the windows 7 command line and flash the card BIOS with the following commands:
Quote:
cd %USERPROFILE%\desktop\winflash
atiwinflash -unlockrom 0
atiwinflash -f -p 0 unlock.bin
atiwinflash -unlockrom 1
atiwinflash -f -p 1 unlock.bin

Everything was well and i saw the "verified" message. After a reboot i can see no image,
Then i look at the OC switch and it was in position 2, which is supposed to be read only.

Conclusion: the card boots in OC switch at 1 (880MHZ GPU), but wont let me boot when switched to position 2.
I've tried to restore the original BIOS, by switching to position 2 after boot, but the winfash keeps telling me that the it has already the same BIOS version.

Can you help me with that?

You are not suppose to edit clocks in BIOS other than VID4.

Put the switch back to position #1, after Windows log-in screen flip the switch to position #2 then flash using the original/stock BIOS that you saved earlier.

Do not touch other setting other than VID4 (on air 1.2V, water 1.25V is consider safe).

Well, maybe i was a little confusing.

The flash was made with the oc switch in #2 position (the safe bios).
Now i can't boot with in #2. And that's why im saying that i've made the impossible.

With switch in #1 position i have no issue.

When i boot with sw position #1 and the flip it to position #2, winflash keeps telling me that i already have that bios on the card (the one i've backed up).

Maybe some screenshots would help. Tell me what is needed.

Make a Bootable USB drive with Atiflash + the master and slave BIOS.

Flip the switch to #2, boot into DOS using onboard video or other graphics card.

Boot into DOS from USB drive,

Type "atiflash -fs -p 0 master.bin" <`------ Master GPU.

Type "atiflash -fs -p 1 slave.bin" <`--------  Slave GPU.

If that doesn't work, include this flag;

Type "atiflash -fs -newbios -p 0 master.bin" <`------ Master GPU.

Type "atiflash -fs -newbios -p 1 slave.bin" <`-------- Slave GPU.

All you need here;

TOOLS.zip 708k .zip file

Good lucks.

With the bios swith in #2 position there is no way to destroy #1 bios, right?
This answer will help me to chill.

Thanks, i'm going to try.

BIOS #1 and #2 have individual channel, so no.

Before flash i've been reading what you wrote better and i realise that i need a aditional card.
My msi 890fxa-gd70 doesn't have onboard video.

Should i turn on the pc (switch #1) and then flip it to the position #2 and try to flash? Or it's not safe?

Thanks for your patience

Well, i ran the atiflash -i and i realised that i have both BIOS (master and slave) with the same bios version.
Code:
bios p/n (slave): 113-C2060100-105
bios p/n: 113-C2060100-105

Looking at the backed up bios i have:
Code:
bios p/n: 113-C2060100-105
bios p/n: 113-C2060100-104

Don't know which one is the master. I'm going to try both combinations.

Down load RBE and open each BIOS, if it has fan profile is the MASTER BIOS

yes.
I fact the Hardware spec string is diferent in both BIOS.
The master bios ends up with a M and the slave with a S.

My problem is solved. I really thought the #2 BIOSes where read only!

Thanks a lot.
