HD 5970: How to deactivate crossfire on a dual gpu card?

Thread Starter
I have an old game which might have troubles with crossfire, so I'd like to turn crossfire off and save this as a profile in the Catalyst Controle Centre or wherever that might be possible (Afterburner maybe?).

So, how to disable crossfire on the dual gpu HD 5970?

Not sure you can do this without editing the BIOS

Turn off Catalyst AI(its in CCC). That will turn off crossfire.

Go to CCC look for > Catalyst A.I. > Select Quality > Hit "apply".

Thanks so far. Changing the Catalyst .A.I. slider-settings didn't resolve my problems. The graphics in the game(Empire Earth) are still glitchy. Mouse-cursor only shown when in motion, graphics flickering, etc.

Edit: Maybe an important bit of info, I run Empire Earth on Win XP 32 at the moment, the graphics glitches are worse on Win 7 64.

It seems that RadeonPro lets you disable Crossfire on Dual-GPU cards.

Another thing you can try is:
Go to C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE
Open "profiles", find and change it to Disable
Save
Reboot your computer
In theory after you have done this the Crossfire is disabled, in order to enable it again just do the reverse. Change to enabled.

Chill you guys......I'm sure you could modify the BIOS of the card for it to only run one core. But I'm not sure if you can turn one off....Have you tried using AMD Clock tool to lock one into idle clock speeds? Maybe underclock your card that might work.
