Well his post says 4 cards. The 5970 has two GPUs on it making a total of 5 GPUs and 4 cards.

Since you will be using them at full load constantly I would really suggest getting a larger unit closer to 1500 watt. Those cards are going to be overclocked and running full load 24/7 so that is definitely a reason to go a bit bigger. I honestly can't get an exact number but I know Phaedrus (the local PSU guru if he's online) could definitely point you in the right direction as to how many watts and which power supply best suits your needs.

All else fails:

So if I only overclock the 7970 and 5970 I should be fine with the Cooler Master 1300W?

Honestly I don't think I can give you a definitive yes or no. You have to realize that you have five high powered GPUs that are going to be overclocked and running full speed 24/7 which is the key difference. If this computer were being used for regular gaming and stuff then a 1300 watt rig would be fine but since this is going to be "folding" it is best to put a little bit of extra into the power supply. You're looking at roughly 1000 watts in just the graphics cards.

5970: 320
5870: 250
7970: 250
6950: 150

Those are rough estimates of what the power draw for those cards will be so it may fluctuate +-20W

I like the pretty lights smile.gif . I can see how that would be a turn off for some people though.

I'd be looking at two PSU's.. Have one for the system and a single card, then have another for the other 3 cards (4GPU's).
Keep the 1000w you already have for the cards, and get a 750W for the system + first card.

Otherwise just get a 1300-1500W PSU. At that wattage (and seeing as you're paying so much) you might as well go gold rated.

The Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1300W is inferior in every possible way to the Rosewill Lightning 1300W and it costs more...

As far as your current unit goes, it's a pretty average Sirtec made unit and even though it might cope with the load, I wouldn't advise using that power supply for a mining rig like the one you listed.
In regard to the actual power draw of the cards you listed while mining look below:
7970 ~ 220W
6950 ~ 200W
5970 ~ 350W
5870 ~ 200W

^that at stock, for overclocked cards add an average of ~30W per card.
