Yeah, thats a good thing, actually, does it happen if you use stock speeds in both CPU/gpu?

Try with CPU HT off and;

If this is throttling by Afterburner, turn off ULPS;

  1. Exit Afterburner and CCC Overdrive.
  2. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
  3. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
  4. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
  5. Reboot PC.

Set the Power Tune +20% in CCC Overdrive.

I've tried the HT on/off already, same result.

Don't have AB installed anymore -completely reinstalled Windows 7 thursday night (which kept me up till 2-30 am and a tiring work day today) and it's still @@@@ stuttering!

I even got a new motherboard today, and it's still stuttering with eyefinity with crossfire enabled.

I also tried to plug in my power supply into the wall directly bypassing the extension cable, and nope, same difference.

The last option I'm ever going to try (until I think of something else, of course, but i'm running out of options, money and patience), is to grab an AMD CPU/Mobo combo, cause according to this guy (who basically has exactly the same problem and went through exact hell I've went through), this is the only thing that works:

http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/multi-monitor-gaming/amd-eyefinity-discussions/18546/eyefinity-crossfire-stuttering-res

So I'm just going to get similar mobo/cpu: ASUS Crosshair V Formula + Fx 8150.

What do you guys think of this combo? Good, bad, decent? I'm picking it up regardless, just wanna know if I'm going to take a big hit compared to my i7 setup. Probably not at the res I'm gaming at anyway (maybe not even at 1080p).

This little "experiment" is already costing me quite a bit of money - I sold off my 6990+6970 for a loss of about 300 bucks total , and now looks like I might have to put up my brand new i7 and msi z68a-gd65 for sale, if this amd system actually works. It better work!!!! mad.gif

Let's see if drivers are the culprit. Make sure to install all available from Windows Update & motherboard chipset drivers.

Uninstall then re-install drivers, if that doesn't fix it then follow thorough to get rid of driver/registry/profile related issues;

  • Uninstall all tweaking applications such as Afterburner, Trixx etc if you have it in the system. Select "no" when prompted to keep settings.

  • Uninstall Catalyst. Select "Express Uninstall". Remove CAP.

  • Delete these folder;
  • C:\user\Program files or (x86)\ ATI or AMD.
  • C:\user\ProgramData\ATI or AMD (need to show hidden files).

  • Turn off UAC.
    Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > change User Account Control Settings > move the slider to bottom > restart PC.

  • Clean it with; Atiman Uninstaller v.6.2.0 (Run with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restarts to complete the uninstallation - Disable UAC to install this cleaner).

Like I said, I've just reinstalled Windows 7. Only thing I have installed now is Windows itself, drivers/etc. to run the game (I am using RC11), and the game. I've had exactly the same issue with 6990/6970 system, so I'm pretty sure its not the drivers. I think maybe x8/x8 is not enough for 7970s? That would be only reasonable explanation, since the AMD system the guy mentions is x16/x16, from what I understand. Haven't looked at AMD processors in a long time, but I guess I gotta do some research.

He's running single monitor. One 1 monitor I can get a minimum of 80 and a maximum of "a lot" of fps. No problems there. Only eyefinity res start to cause huge stuttering. We'll find out tomorrow if it really is Sandy Bridge + AMD Crossfire = Laggy Eyefinity.

Yeah, that's it, my personal final episode of Mythbusters is tomorrow. Whatever happens, I'm not going to buy anything else. Depending on the results I'm either gonna be running i72600k+7970x2 or FX8150+7970x2.

Stay tuned....

Very strange, if this is Eyefinity crossfire issue, all users with that setup must be having similar issues.

  1. Turn off any hardware monitoring from running in the background (includes Afterburner RTSS).
  2. Restore all Windows customization to Windows default. Let system managed pagefile.
  3. Turn down game settings AA, MSAA=0 etc.

Allright, so I got FX-8120 and Asus Crosshair V Formula yesterday. Did it help? Hm...difficult question. One thing I can tell you is that my fps seems to be more stable when I play in eyefinity, but it's not high enough, even though I see that both cards are around 99%, it seems like it should be higher.

On a single screen, of course, FX-8120 loses to the intel i5 or i7s badly. I'm getting like 30% lower fps with 1 monitor now, but it's still high enough to be playable, so if eyefinity worked properly I'd be okay with that.

I guess I'll stick with this setup for now, and also keep my msi z68a-gd65 g3 mobo - it will support PCI-e 3.0 once the ivy bridge comes along, and even though for crossfire it's still going to be only 8x/8x - the bandwith of PCI-e 3.0 is twice the PCI-e2.0, so if that's what the problem is, I'll basically double it, so it would be like running PCI-e 2.0 x16/x16.

We all know, even PCIe 2.0 split to x8/x8, the performance hit is negligible to matter at all.

As far as grahichs card goes, the only adavantage of PCIe 3.0 will allow more power draw from the PCIe slot. But PCIe 3.0 is not all about graphics, other controllers will have huge benefit of the double bandwidth/transfer rate from PCIe 2.0.
