I3-2100 vs FX-4100 vs A8-3870K budget office build? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Thanks for all comments. Although, in this review http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/A8-3870K-vs-Core-i3-2105-CPU-Review/1470, the i3 seems to take the lead in everything that I need, and the A8 is better at gaming and 3D rendering (neither of which I need). So I would like to know of any experiences with overcloked A8s and reliability, as well as how much this closes the gap between the i3 in with single-threaded applications. Thanks!

The A8 will do whatever you need it to. Its GPU is much better than the i3s, and you may find that useful somewhere down the line.

At stock the i3's CPU will be slightly faster but the A8 is unlocked, so in the end it wins there too. The advantage of the i3 is lower power consumption.

The i3 will still be faster than an overclocked A8. For stuff like Excel, it's hardly discutable.

I would suspect that any CPU you'd choose would be able to handle the tasks you'd ask of it with ease. The i3 has more raw CPU power, but the graphics are the A8 are far superior to the i3-2100's, and I think in the long run you will benefit more from that than from any extra GFLOPS that the i3 might offer you.
