Would you cut open a new PSU?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I'm just planning ahead and when it comes to the PSU, well it just doesn't fit into my case.

Is it possible to take the power switch and power connector out of the back part of this PSU (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1266&ID=2043) and put them somewhere else?

I'm thinking on placing the PSU sideways into my case showing just the air exit thru the right panel but I wouldn't like my power cord and power button to be where everyone can see them or even turn off the pc. What is your advice?

I have no idea about how that PSU looks like on the inside, but even though stuff like that is always possible in the theoretical perspective, I'd strongly recommend you not to do it as there are so many thing that could go wrong, and you'd loose the warranty even before doing your own touches to it. Either mod the case so that it will fit, get another case or return it for another PSU that might fit.

How exactly doesn't it fit. I looked at the size and it looks to be pretty standard. Is it too long and it hits something?

I also would not recommend opening/modifying the power supply at all.

Modding the case or get a different power supply are much better choices.

Hi guys. Just to clarify the PSU would be mounted sideways (with the power switch and air exit toghuards the right door of the case) right below the HDDs hotswap bay but you're all right, I shouldn't modify anything.

I just hope it won't be that odd to see the power cord coming out from the side of the case instead of its back hehe.
