Newbie question, as I keep seeing this a lot...

In regards to Opterons
(A) Remind me what separates them from the regular Athlon 64s (especially the dual-core X2s), please?
But, more so (B) In the line for your proc reading "Opteron 165 CCBBE 0617FPM", what is the significance of the "CCBBE"? (I keep seeing reference to that, in regards to Optys on these forums and can't make sense of it.)

Thanks to whomever can answer, ahead of time!

Basics.
A. Im not sure on, as I know little about AMD.

B. Is the differance in steppings, some steppings overclock much better then others.

(A) AMD Opteron are SERVER CPUs and can be pushed to run 24/7
(B) Opteron 165 (CCBBE 0617FPM) This part is the stepping version. Meaning you can get a different model/stepping some stepping dont let you overclock very high. We have charts showing what Opteron 165 are good stepping.
So I have a Opt 165 stock was 1.8 now I overclocked it to 3.0 a 1.2 gain in performance. If you were to go out and buy a Amd FX60 @ 2.6 would have cost $1000 when you can only pay $159.00 for the same speeds just by ocing your cpu..

The main difference between Opterons and most Athlons (with the exception of just a few models) is that they have 1MB of L2 chache per core. Other than that it is mainly marketing, and so that they are capable of running 24/7, AMD takes the better cihps that roll of the line and call them Opterons. That is probably why you see 1.8 GHz Optys reaching 3.0 GHz, where a 2.0 Athlon 64 can't seem to make it past 2.7 GHz.
