Friends CPU

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

My friend needs a PC built for his mother, basically just to be used to browse the web and listen to music. We live by a microcenter and are looking at these two cores

x4 970T vs FX 6100 vs 1100T ... Now price is important so the 970T price is appealing

http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55af2b66#/55af2b66/28

This is just to be a budget build with out a standalone GPU. Which of the cores above has the best GPU on it?

I am an Intel guy so I am new to the AMD cores.

Why not go Intel?

EDIT: Also, that link isn't working for me.

Any of those is more than enough for general web surfing tbh. So grab whatever is affordable.

Without a discrete card, look at the Llano APU's or the intel i3's.

Microcenter has the paired mobo and CPU combos, I can get a X4 970T with this mobo http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0366111 for 165.

Whatever you want to get which seems like a reasonable price, the i3-2100 would easily do what you need. So would the Phenom X2's or the FX-4100.
It really comes down to what you want to spend, AMD or otherwise, it'll do the job.

i think you're mistaken between the 970 and the 970T (which exists but rare and unlocks to a 6 core). the one micro center has is - a 970.

My mistake, I thought the T designated that it was an unlocked multiplier. It is the 970 BE this one --> http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0351903

960T @ Microecenter for $109 would be the best choice for what he plans on using it for. If he decides he wants more you can try to unlock it to a x6 Thuban and add a GPU. Also with it being $20 cheaper than a 970 I would put the extra money in a better board like the MSI 880G which is one step better I believe or even better the ASUS 870 AM3+ bundle for $169 is best. By getting an AM3+ board gives a bit of future proofing with an upgrade path into AM3+ CPU's later.

Without a discrete graphics card, I say get the A6-3650 or A8-3850. Hands down the best choice for iGPU thumb.gif
