This is pretty general but you're all smart and get the idea.. thumb.gif

Oh certainly. I was just commenting that I think at least with Newegg.us they will set the day one price of whatever piece of hardware to what the manufacturer says to. So if Newegg is selling 7970's for $600 than it is because they were told to and aren't price gouging yet. Just like with the 5000 series, it is pretty obvious that there would be large demand for these GPUs. They could have been gouging from day one on the 5000 series but they didn't. They seem to wait without reason as far as the market goes.

So my guess is that in a couple weeks we will see $650 -$700 7970's on the egg. So get them while they're cheap.

Like others said, that MSI card is overclocked. The MSRP is still $550. Cards with a good non-reference cooler will probably be $600-625. Also, AMD has no competition right now - if they did, the 7970 would be at $450 considering it's die size (10% smaller than 6970). Also when you consider the 7890 will be about $360 and should be about 33% slower than the 7970, things aren't getting out of control too much. Yes, that's only maybe 10% over a 6970 at stock, but it should tie the 580 when both are overclocked. So everything's not *terribly* overpriced now although clearly AMD is milking it while Nvidia fools around.

Anyways overall I do agree 7000 series is overpriced. Nvidia needs to hurry up and hopefully release a good graphics card with ~130W TDP, which I'm sure they could do with a die-shrink, maybe GTX 570 performance? biggrin.gif

lol. the prices just keep climbing. wasn't this card supposed to retail for no more than $550 on release? and then come back down to $450 or something like that after a few weeks? nice price gouging. people, if you want the prices to come down, stop buying the heck out of them!

UK Prices are fun, my 7970s were the equivalent of $750 each...

You failed to read. Anything. Also, you're statement is ironic considering you bought an over-priced gtx580.

I get 20-25% more fps with 4X 7970 compared to Quad-SLI 580 3Gb. Both the 7970 and 580 3GB are selling for the same price.

Who's selling the overpriced card? wink.gif

And there is still people buying those stupidly overpriced 580 3Gb... so the 7970 is at a pretty pretty good in the market right now.

Blame Nvidia for the high AMD 7970 prices. Totally their fault. The 580 is an overpriced card right now.

Nv will release a mainstream card in March in front of it's flagship due in May

this card is rumored to hold it's own with a 7970

If this is the case and nV stays with mainstream pricing arounf $ 300 these cards will have to drop in price to compete.

When the nV flagship releases expect to pay arounf $ 550 to 600 and 650 for Lightnings / Matrix cards

I can't beleive the huge demand still in year 2012 for highend PC cards like these, i could understand 15 years back when PC dominated the gaming market but now the consoles has taken over most parts of gaming and most games are developed for consoles primarily so i can't understand the demand for these cards as it is today.

Would be nice to know how many cards actually went out of 7970 in the first batch on the market?

There is post on HardOCP debunking that rumor. It was paid Nvidia infiltrators (viral marketing) that startred that false rumor of a 300$ 7970 competitor. Totally false. Typical Nvidia tactics...

Stay classy Nvidia! Viral marketing discovered at chiphell, Kepler rumors debunked

Quote:
Many forums in China all have various articles about Kepler being inexpensive, HD7900 will plummet in price etc. Looking at the internation forums, there isn't any reports about it. All the editors "uncovering leaked" information in the major forums is clearly NV's (Nvidia) PR using the flooder(people who mass comment on forums) army to suppress the HD7900's selling and its lead. I will lock any Chiphell posts, and I hope that any other members reposting [GF104 rumors] will self-discipline.
rough chinese translation. ALL of the posts related to kepler being 299$ from chiphell, and speculated performance, were from marketing shills (proven by the owners of the forum) and have been banned.

Charlie from SA was bamboozled as well. Keep it classy Nvidia.
