Not to be outdone by MSI... Gigabyte brings their offering to the market. its offical folks we have broke the 600+ for a single gpu.
This is the trend I have been worried about. " If they BUY it WE will SELL it"

8800 gtx was around that price

Those are for overclocked versions of the cards. Regular is going for $559.

meh, as long as there's options to max almost anything at 1080p for under $200 i'm happy (68xx etc.) and I think the mid-range gpu is one of the most competitive sectors and there will always be affordable options if you don't really need the latest and best right now.

If every increase in performance from improved tech costs as much as the percent of improvement what would a computer cost today?

I returned my 7970 because I don't think that the price should be related to a 40nm product. Once 28nm is in full production (by both AMD and nvidia) and companies want to sell volume we will get more reasonable prices.

600+ for a single GPU has been broken for quite some years. I bought my 8800GTX at launch in fact for $629.99.

When I wrote that I was refering to AMD, the green has been overpriced for some time imo. That was the main reason I have always gone red, the value.

I actually read the entire thread, thanks for trying to tell me what I did when you don't know. My statement isn't ironic considering I bought my video card 8 months ago, when it was the best single gpu on the market, which is what I was going for. Try to keep your fanboy-based comments to yourself in the future. Besides, the 580 is still a fantastic video card, regardless of price. The topic here is the continuously rising prices of the 7970, also a fantastic card. Let's stay on topic shall we? thumb.gif
