The core i5? It's $230 on the egg, seems that would blow my budget.. please enlighten me

Yes get a 1090T deal (better too) and your set m8.
I would save a few more bucks to go with the 2500k thou. Even If I had to wait a month.

Pursuing a 2500k at this budget is going to reduce the scope of the GPU and it is going to make this build worse if you want to game (because the GPU makes one hell of a lot more of a difference in the majority of games).

Paying $100 for An M4A87TD/USB3 is ridiculous because 1. it is an older generation AM3 870 chipset board 2. it does not have a cooled VRM setup 3. you can get boards with better features for lower price, i.e. M5A97 which has 4+2 cooled VRMs and 970 chipset.

I take it 2500k is the hot OC chip right now...

Justifying the extra price to the GF is probably not gonna happen, she's not an enthusiast, had to stop her from just going down to best buy and picking up a tower from them...doh.gif Plus she's not doing any video compiling or photo editing ect.. so I dunno

I've updated the list in the original post. Big changes are:

6950 instead of 6870. The 560 Ti is just about the same price, which is better?
X4 Deneb 925 with Asus M5A97 can I get another cpu/mobo combo for $200ish that is significantly better?

Don't listen to these 2500k fan boys. It will blow your budget. If your main task will be gaming, at this budget you would be better off putting all of your money towards a good graphics card that will carry you forward in games like BF3 and such.

AMD is your best bet for CPU & Mobo for around $200. That looks good and the HD 6950 2GB is much faster than the GTX 560 Ti so you are good there.

I was jsut about to say that the 6950 is a better choice overall based on some of the reviews i've seen, but then i noticed that you specifically mentioned that your GF wants to play MMOs and i remembered this WoW benchmark from Tom's Hardware Looks like the 560 ti would be a better bet for ya.

If you can squeeze our an extra $30, then pick up this EVGA GTX560 ti Classified. It is within a 1 FPS difference when compared to a 570 and can easily surpass it after overclock.

You know what, scrap it all.  Here is my idea for a $750 gaming rig:

$732 shipped for all

Might want to consider waiting for Radeon HD 7XXX (i.e. 7950), it's only a bit longer

Here is a rig I just put together in 2 min on the egg. If you put more time Im sure you can get the price down.

Intel core i5 2500k - 229

Asrock z68 extream3 - 121

HIS HD 6850 - 139

Thermaltake 500w - 59.99 <----can go with 600w for 10 bucks more if you want.

500GB hatachi HDD - 79.99

Antec three hundred - 59.99

Corsair 4GB memory - 24.99

Total with shipping....... = 716.00 use rest of money for a ice cream....... =-)

If you want I can post links.

Dont listen to AMD fanboys I went from a phenom x 6 to a 2500k and it raised my FPS like crazy.
