$750 Gaming rig - Please critique - Page 3

^ Yeah, and the downgrade to a 6850 from a 6950 is going to drop FPS like crazy.  The AMD-based build with the 6950 is still better.

Here is that build I just posted on the other page.......

You know what, scrap it all.  Here is my idea for a $750 gaming rig:

$732 shipped for all

Might want to consider waiting for Radeon HD 7XXX (i.e. 7950), it's only a bit longer

Ya except I run a 6850 and can play all games except BF3 cause of my crap CPU. tell me what happen to bulldozer....oh yea it failed.

Using the 1155 socket while sacrificing a bit on the GPU will only net you positive results in the future. The rig I posted can even be fine tuned to get it below 700 bucks.

Like I said I actually owned a x 6 and it failed hard on crap. 2500k is a epic chip for the price, and leaves room for lots of future upgrades if you wish.

Don't get me wrong, but going down from a 6950 to a 6850 is by no means a small sacrifice....

Delete the antec case for the rosewill 29.99 case, and delete the motherboard for a asrock p67 pro3 for 99.99 and you can afford to still get the HD 6950...So now you can get the GPU you want and the CPU that rocks.

Give me a min OP and ill sort it out and post the links to them all...

Core i5 is $179 at Microcenter. Unfortunately, you said it's 2 hours out of your way. Fortunately, you also said there's a Fry's near you, which, incidentally, will price match that $179 for you. smile.gif

Here's a better hard drive deal for just $20 more (bringing whatever total rig cost i posted earlier to a reasonable $752 shipped):

WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD at Newegg - $130 shipped with code EMCNJHD38

Thanks for all the advice guys. Maybe I could do a 2500k build and get a used 6950 or 560ti. Will have to sit down tonight and crunch it out

slickwilly - current games like swtor, assassins creed, skyrim, mw3, ect.

Anyway, gotta get back to work.

Here is the build with links.

Rosewill case

Hitatchi 500GB HDD

XFX HD 6950 GPU

ThermalTake 500w PSU

Corsair 4GB ddr3 memory

AsRock P67 PRO 3 motherboard

Intel i5 2500k "AMD Killer" CPU

total = 764.93 If your tight to the 750 budget down grade to generic 4 gig ram, and a 320 HDD and youll be way under budget.

Im the only AMD guy telling you to go Intel that should tell you something.
