Crysis has been known to really benefit from a faster HDD setup, much more an SSD. dixson01974 who has experienced this personally will also tell you this. This is Crysis, one of the most system-intensive games to still exist today - and it's getting a 50-66% Min FPS boost over what could otherwise be considered an "average" HDD storage setup, with the Intel X-25M SSD. This is the true secret to getting good Crysis framerates: faster storage.
The assertion that SSDs will not improve FPS is a bit off the scale because there really isn't any proof that proves that it doesn't make a difference in X game, but there is proof available showing that it does make a big difference in at least a few games out there. The SSD makes a difference in way more than just games though and that is the real killer. Getting an SSD attenuates the biggest bottleneck in modern computer systems.
An SSD for all around purposes in addition to these apparent and existing FPS improvement in some games is a much better all around investment at this moment than an only slightly better CPU. There's one other thing I find wrong with this statement: that an SSD does not improve overall system performance while a CPU/platform that is negligibly better will is also a ridiculous claim. Hard disk storage represents the most evident bottleneck in a computer today. System performance? (i.e. running system apps & tasks) does not require much CPU at all. You could get away with a low end AMD A4 APU if all one cares about is good system performance, despite that single-threaded performance is not nearly up to par with an LGA1155 system. CPU is hardly a bottleneck of any sort these days unless you actually start running very heavily CPU intensive tasks like video encoding, which this system will not be doing.
Asserting that the AMD platform is not future proof is also ridiculous as the AM3+ socket on the ASUS M5A97 will be capable of supporting at least two future generations of AMD CPUs.
