OK SO I AM NOT REALLY TYPING IN ALL CAPS< I HAVE NO CHOICE> (MY PERIODS LOOK LIKE > THIS) MY CAPS LOCK HAS NO EFFECT ON MY TYPING< this is caps lock on< (that should be a comma)>

my mouse has suddenly become as possesed as my keyboard> if I USE THE SCROLL WHEEL IT SENDS ME EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD OF A WEBPAGE> MY FIREFOX TABBED BROWSER NO LONGER WORKS AND I OPEN A NEW BROWSER INSTEAD OF A NEW TAB EVERYTIME I CLICK A LINK OR ADVANCE FROM ONE TOPIC TO ANOTHER>

SOMETIMES WHEN I CLICK ON A DESKTOP ICON< SEVERAL ICONS GET HIGHLIGHTED> THEN I GET A MESSAGE THAT SAYS SOMETHING LIKE "EXPLORING #@ (i can"t type the number thirty_two) items at once will take a lot of time"

this problem is intermittent> this is what i have done to try to fix it: I HAVE RUN A SCAN WITH PC CILLIN AND AVG VIRUS> I HAVE TRIED A SYSTEM RESTORE TO AN EARLIER DATE> I HAVE CLEARED OUT ALL MY TEMP FILES AND DELETED MY RECYCLE BIN>

PLEASE HELP< I DO NOT HAVE MY OS DISK ANYMORE AND REALLY DO NOT WANT TO RE_INSTALL ANYWAY>

After being off all night, it is working fine as of right now. But it had been working ok before and went to pot. I am seriously thinking of re-installing Windows. I really hate to do that though.

Wow, I had a similar problem before (minus the mouse), but that was because the AC was dripping water right into my keyboard.. once it dried, my keyboard was whacked...

Yours doesn't sound like a hardware problem, more like a virus or an I/O problem

as Puckbandit said, try reinstalling the drivers for kybd & mouse..

If that still doesn't work, try checking for suspicious processes & services..

What is the keyboard you're using?

It sounds like your shift key got stuck. Shift+scroll wheel = forward/backwards and that would explain the caps. that would also account for your FF problems as shift+click opens links in a new window

take the keys off of your keyboard, soak them in warm soapy water, rinse them, let them dry, and reapply them

DONT do anything drastic untill you're sure that the keyboard is the problem. Try another one if available

I had that problem at school a few months ago and i just restarted and all was well!

I think its a key thing, like push some buttons to activate your second...something...oh i dunno!

EDIT: oh yea, i meant the keyboard issues not the mouse ones.

I think that's exactly what you should do, and while you're at it run some antivirus/antispyware 'cause some viruses have this type of behaviour. After you clean it up reinstall win and all will be fine.

^^ OK the above post was the absolute most helpful and probably the best response I have ever gotten to a post. Thank you so much. I was just about to re-install.

I ran AVG Virus and PC Cillin and neither discovered anything, so it makes sense that it is a keyboard issue. I also get a message right after POST that says the hard drive options have changed, hit F1 or Delete to enter set-up. I wonder if that would explain this issue as well.

BTW, I am using a Logitech cordless MX Duo, but the cordless mouse is just sitting on the charger because I am using a Logitech G5 mouse instead.
