6870 Crossfire Microstuttering in BF3.

I have dual 6870s in crossfire. In Battlefield 3, microstuttering is really bad. I have heard in the past that this is a common problem with the 6800 series in crossfire. When I disable crossfire, I get solid 60fps with absolutely no stuttering.

I play Flight simulator X a lot too, and it is worse when crossfire is disabled.

Is there an easy fix without sacrificing graphics? If not, should I sell the second 6870?

Essentially, what should I do?

What driver are you using.
12.1 and 12.2 make a massive difference for crossfire stuttering from what iv seen said on this forum.

Iv never noticed any stuttering on my system anyway with 2 6850's but all my components are highly overclocked. And iv only ever ran 11.11 and 12.1, 12.2 drivers since getting this setup.

Make sure you remove your old drivers, and install the 11.12 drivers and cap2 configuration form AMD. Also BF3 is a VRAM hog, especially on the B2K maps. So make sure you disable AA and lower AF.

That has nothing to do with microstuttering guys. OP, I suggest you use the frame limiter in MSI Afterburner or a frame limiting application like dxtory to limit your FPS to 60. That should take care of the microstutter as it did in my situation. If you want to eliminate the stutter entirely, adding a 3rd 6870 would do the trick, or simply upgrading to 6950/6970/7970s in crossfire, as those tend to have VERY minimal stutter if any.

i have the same setup (6870´s crossfire) and i managed to fix 99% of the microsluter without 3rd party apps.

Try this:

create a file named "user.cfg" in the Battlefield 3 game folder (the same folder that has bf3.exe, NOT the "my documents" one)

paste this inside:
---
renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 5
renderdevice.triplebufferingenable 1
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 62
render.drawfps 1
render.perfoverlayvisible 0
---
with "perfoverlayvisible" you can show the frame times on the screen, it may help to find some problems related to lack of vram on some situations.

the microsluter will "almost disapear" with vsync, but it adds some latency to the controls, with the ".forcerenderaheadlimit" you can have most of the "low latency controls" without vsync and microsluttering.

the "MaxVariableFps" is 62 insted of 60 because at 60 (at least here), the tear line stays at a fixed point at the screen, what anoys me more than a "moving tear line".

the "drawfps" thingy is just a native fps counter on the screen, change it to 0 if you want.

6870 x2 good working in bf3, but i`m have some problems to start it`s in normal play, and I decided to
my config

phenom II x4 960T (unlocked to x6 and overlocking to 3.4 -stability)P
power 750w (fine prower))
x2 6870 in crossfire
mother -gigabyte 990fx pci-e 16x/16x
memory -16 gb
ssd silicon power 120gb system and bf3 on ssd
game not playing on ultra settings)))) but i know what 6870x2 -is no top video)) game working good without anisotropic Filtering (aa move on min), shadow on min , tesselation on min
dont starting fraps becаuse i`m have most problem with him Micro Stuttering and lags
who say is 1gb+1gb=1gb in crossfire- is stupid, study mathematics for example 1+1=2))) my system shows this is correct .
in resolution FullHD using memory 1.5gb vram
video uploaded to 50%

Make sure you are not running BF3 at Ultra 4x AA settings. At those settings HD 6870 (1 GB) runs out of VRAM. If stuttering is present at lower settings try the latest drivers 12.8 whql.
