So, I'm not sure what transparency you are looking through, but it's the wrong one. Also, I am welcome to hearing what I've said that you believe is "off".
Please do tell us more about what basic changes need to be made to make it viable to manufacture in the US. In my opinion, we need a good deal of deregulation and take away the minimum wage, and it would be viable for any company again. But as long as people here demand having minimum wages and don't mind the government stepping all over companies with hoards of regulations, they can expect to see the majority of our manufacturing jobs go overseas. Companies will manufacture where it is cheapest, and right now, that is overseas. If you want manufacturing in the US, you have to make it cheaper to manufacture in the US. That's the bottom line...

This is what I have been trying to explain to him for the last few pages.

I did notice however that we have a few states with no minimum wage requirements. http://www.dol.gov/whd/minwage/america.htm (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina.) Even with that good luck getting American citizens to work for less than $100 a MONTH.

There's still the federal minimum wage though, which IIRC is at about $5.50 right now.

Interesting. Me either then. I always thought federal minimum wage took precedent over state if state was lower.

You have to have the labor force ready to do the work as well. I see no reason to think that us workers want the jobs that foxconn is doing. And foxconn is probably a great employer compared to the most of the other large chinese manufacturers.

Well thats China, unfortunately.
That is not the condition ANYBODY should be allowed to work. 24 hours standing? That is ridiculous.

And the uninformed/ignorant masses of OCN are at it again. Blame Apple. It's alllllllllll Apple's fault for this. rolleyes.gif

Foxconn is the company that employs these people. Foxconn has more than one factory, and makes more products for more companies than just about anyone in technology. Dell, Microsoft, HP, Amazon.... all sorts of companies use them. Why aren't you blaming any of them? Oh, it's because it's cool to hate Apple for everything. Michael Jackson died... it's Apple's fault!

The real problem is Foxconn, and how they treat their workers. When tours or inspections are held, they take a large chunk of their workforce (much of it under age) and herd them out the door. The factories work off a skeleton crew compared to their normal operation. Evidence is hard to get out of there, and even if you did get it out, who's going to enforce it? China? Please.

"Americans wouldn't work as fast as the Chinese"

I would rather see well-paid, well-treated workers with a lower output than underpaid, abused workers with higher output.

I realize most of you have grown up in the typical American mindset of "quantity over quality" and laud the high-volume, low-quality mass production to feed our capitalist, consumerist society. That's a bad thing. And the more people who realize this sooner, the better.
