Hi guys,

A couple of days ago I started thinking: maybe it's a good idea to start looking for a new monitor. And this is how I entered the crazy world of computer monitor purists wink.gif Anyway, it is proving incredibly difficult to find the perfect monitor, as each and every one of them appears to have some issues. At first I started looking for a decent, fair priced IPS monitor (I heard IPS looked good, although now I know it's good but not insanely much better than TN). This is how I found out about the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM. At first, I thought I had found the perfect monitor for a nice price, but after some thorough research I found out that a lot of people were having problems with blur in games, and that was kind of a deal-breaker I guess. So the search went on, and I realized the budget had to go up. I started looking for some gamer oriented IPS screens (which after some research basically all (including a nice Asus panel) had some serious issues). But this is when I found out about the 120Hz TN panels, and after reading into it a bit I think 120Hz is the way to go.

Anyway, that was the context that led me to where I am now. Let me now sum up what I am looking for, and what is not so important to me as well:

Desired:
- Good monitor for gaming (No ghosting, low response times / input lag, 120Hz?) but good for general use is also very welcome.
- When possible some ergonomic adjustment options (not too important)
- Nice looking design is a welcome bonus
- Some decent input options would also be nice
- Decent colors at least
- Glossy/matte does not matter much to me, as I think both have pro's. Glossy has a slight edge for me though
- At least 23 inches, but more is better

Not so important:
- 3D. It's a nice bonus that I'll definitely play around with, but no requirement
- Crazy Photoshop color reproduction

Budget: around 500$/€ (after getting higher many times wink.gif)

I will generally use the monitor for everything, but gaming is important. Probably 50-60% gaming and the rest browsing/listening to music/watching movies/writing documents ('general use').

Anyway, I noticed one monitor that might just suit my needs: the Samsung S27A950D. It's 27 inch, 2ms GtG response time, 120Hz, and the design is in my opinion practically unbeatable. Also, it's glossy which I kinda like, appears to have good color reproduction and takes both DVI, displayport and HDMI. It's still a TN panel, but I think it's one of the best. It does not have NVidia 3D vision but really, I can live with that (I don't really need 3D and I don't use NVidia cards). It does not have a lot of ergonomic adjustment options, but at least you can change the angle and it's not that important to me. It's available here in the Netherlands for about €550, which is acceptable to me.

Here's some of my current systems specs:
Current monitor: LG Flatron W2253V (22 inch TN, was considered to be a great price vs. quality monitor at the time), so you'll no what I'll be upgrading from
Processor: i5 2500K
Graphics: 2X HD5850 in CrossfireX (Asus)
(I will provide more specs if desired)

So, what do you guys think? Is the S27A950D a solid choice? Or is there any IPS or other 120Hz screen you'd like to recommend? Or perhaps it's better to wait? Any advice is highly appreciated!
