Plextor M3 Series

Thread Starter
Are they good? I'm shopping for a 128GB drive for laptop use. The Plextors have Marvell controller and are a bit cheaper than the Samsungs and Cruicals. Newegg has the Plextor for $154.99. Good buy?

Haven't seen any tests done on it yet but given what it uses for a controller, I'd say it's a good buy for sure.

It looks to be a good buy,

Also note that it uses 5 watts when active, that is more than the usual 3W SSD or even the 0.15W with the Crucial M4 when active. So it will be a good reliable drive, but it probably won't help you save your battery compared to your traditional hard drive currently in the laptop.

Here is the description on Newegg about power consumption:
Quote:
Low power consumption

A notebook’s battery life determines how long it will operate without being plugged in to a power socket. Almost all notebook components are specifically designed for reduced power consumption, and the notebook hard drive is no exception. The average operating power consumption of a 7,200 RPM 3.5-inch internal hard drive currently exceeds 10 watts. A 7200 RPM notebook hard drive consumes only 2 watts by comparison.

Yes, it is basically a Corsair Performance Pro with different firmware and smaller nm toggle NAND.
