It is complicated, yes. But the overall concept of it is very simple and used over and over in different markets by different companies.

Im not saying that microsoft is the only company that does this. I am just using them as an example. The same applies for Sony and Sega when they were still around.

Microsoft knows that the profit isn't in the consoles them selves. But once you have someone that buys it, they know they have a customer for all of their other products that make the real money.

You may think I am talking out by - about all this, but if you actually take the time and research and look around. You will come to the same conclusion. And yes I do research and study things like this, its what tweaks my interest.

I hear ya diveAddict

I'm done making anymore comments about economics behind the 360. To make a good argument its to much to generalize into a few posts on a forum.

to get back on topic: it is not secret that the games are optimized for the hardware. I can't submit solid evidence but I did graduate with some guys working for companies that are working on some 360 titles. So I would consider myself a insider since I do talk to them often about their progress. That does little for you so your going to have to take my word for it. I also have a passion for video games so I do read up, but I don't always believe what I read.

But it seems to be the case that a pc gpu is a better piece of hardware than what the 360 offers but the difference is how the software takes advantage of the hardware. Things like the physX card will have games that only support that hardware so the 360 is mostlikely the same case..

Your telling me what you have read and that’s not your fault. I've read the same stuff and I don't believe it. Every successful company doesn't tell there secrets. They just do what they need too, to stay on top. So I tend to not believe the gossip.. I'll read it but I don't close my mind to that as being fact..

I've got a friend of mine that lives quite locally, that was one of the first people to find the white page for the BIOS wafer, and specs for both the Xbox and the 360 systems, as well as the tech specs for the specific individual drives. Also, he found a way to augment the code for Samsung drive on the 360, and was on the first international team that cracked the 1.0 original Xbox BIOS. Give someone a chance to speak their mind. There's enough information out there not to flame them. Whether or not you believe them is up to you. You need not impugn their intelligence for having an opinion or factoid that outclasses them to the point where it becomes the equivelent of an internet homocide. That's why it's called a forum. It's one of those, "Post an objection, but not a slam", kinds of things. Now that you've been filled in, keep it civil. Thank you.

And to think that I was in China when MS unveiled their new XBOX manufacturing plant just a train-ride away

I should've just jumped on the train, and try to sneak in the plant to see if there were indeed alien consultants working for MS!

Edit:
DigitrevX : well we should be glad cuz so far no one has resorted to answering the argument with a "I RIGHTZ and you suxxorz..!" So far the arguments are pretty good, although we have strayed quite off-topic

The problem is no one can optimize a game for a specific GPU like you can with a single console. Well, they can but there sales would suffer because we all don't have the same cards, right.. So PC game developers have to keep many different cards/machines in mind making it impossible to make a game as optimized as one for the the Xbox 360. So even if you have a amazing card its only going to make the game as good as the settings will let you go. And in most cases the games/software has to make the game compatible with the underdog machines to turn a good prophet. But some games don't always work that way. Like BF2 seems like it isn't optimized for anything and you need a pretty nice pc to play it unless you don't mind horrible textures and so on. And I think we will all agree that the PC version was better mostly because of the content. So i hope that answers some of the authors original question.

diveAddict: I agree, this has gotten of topic alot over some dumb stuff..

zorpnic: are you directing that comment at me? There are no slams here. And we are speaking our mind. And I do believe what I want. I think we are all ok here but thanks for the concern

I just have a little problem with people giving factual information on a topic like this that is from sources on the net that are hard to trust. Its kinda like me believing God is a white man with a beard just because pictures that depict him are plastered all over a church's walls when the truth is nobody really knows what he looks like till you pass away..

But now communities like this one fight back to the developers, if they can't do it for us, we can all overclock, use tweaked drivers, and tweak the game.

Isn't that why our 7900GT KO can still run every game on max settings even it isn't the highest-end hardware? Plus we like to take it to the max, and we don't care as long as the FPS doesn't drop below 30, while game developers wanna keep the X360 running at higher FPS's just in case.

In the end we all love our big chunky PCs.

Exactly it doesn't matter either way. It is what it is. Thats why they are called opinions.

yes Nuclear we all know you 7900GT KO is not from this earth, and some advanced alien society built it and can do circles around my puny 7900GT KO that was built by inferior humans..

If they start making GPU's more like the physX card were the games are written for the hardware pc's will be right up there with the consoles again. Only thing that sucks about that is there will only be a handful of GPU selections at best..
