GTX 580 sli power requirements? - Page 2

I think from the PSU calc, an OC to 4.0~ is like 130w total, although it might be a little lower since I think you can do that on stock volts, or just 1 bump of volt higher.

As stated, I wouldn't settle for less than a great 850w PSU, although a 950/1000w would be ideal for any and all OC headroom so you don't have to worry at all.

I run a 2500k at 4.7 and 2 gtx 580 lightning extreme gpus at 1.1v 915 mhz
on a corsair ax750 without any problems

alright, now that someone has agreed with me in that 850 is more than enough, (it seems like people overestimate the power requirements; the other day i asked a friend of mine how much i would need with those specs and he immediately said. oh whooa, you're gonna need well into the thousands. then i showed him the calc and he was shocked.) is this psu good enough quality? My last build failed because of a low quality psu. so im really anxious about the power more than anything.

I've ran 2 580's at 950 core with a 2600K @ 4.8Ghz on a AX850.

You'll be fine with 850w. But I'd suggest a Corsair, Antec, or SeaSonic model PSUs.

Edit - Now I'm running 470's and still don't have any issues.

Seems like this is one of the most asked questions on here.

http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/

put in your specs there and see how much headroom you'll have.

I have 2 580's in sli with my 850w and i've had no problems yet. Thats at stock though so if you do plan on overclocking both, you might wanna go 1000w

Yesterday I bought a second GTX480 and is currently running on my TX750 fine, played Crysis for a couple hours and the system ran fine. I have the cards running at stock and underclocked and undervolted my cpu and ram. But as soon I have some funds I will buy a stronger power supply becuase I miss running my CPU @ 4.8, ram @ 2133, and GPU @ 860 core.

Undervolt the 480s at all? I can run mine at stock at 0.95...

My TX 750 does fine, though my cards aren't overclocked. According to my kill-a-watt there's some still headroom too. If you want to start playing with GPU voltage and bigger OCs I'd get a good 850w unit.

This PSU looks to be good price performance even when compared to a good 850W brand. An 850W powersupply should be good enough but this one looks great. Rosewill BRONZE Series RBR1000-M 1000W . Good luck with the hunt!
