what if i get an asus p5n-e sli motherboard? i have someone that might be willing to give me one of those then i would need to get a cpu for it

yea that system is a bit out of date. i upgraded a newer dell and the thing with that is you need to upgrade so many pieces that you might as well built a new computer. the case is proprietary so if you build a new comp you wont be able to get it in that case without extensive modding. anyways to upgrade that system you'll have to get a better cpu which means a new motherboard for it and new ram for that. then you'll probably need a new psu if that is an older lower W version. Anyways you see where im going with this. If i were you i would put that money aside until you had about 500 or so and then buy the components. AMD is very cost friendly for a "weaker" computer.
