Boy there's alot of talent here!

Hello all, long-time viewer/guest, 1st time poster. I used to do modding/build my own PCs, but I'm afraid the last time I had the chance to complete a project was back when I spent $$$ on the 1st AMD 64b processor, so that's been...what, about 8 years ago? Was reviewing some of the sponsored rigs and had to register here, it got my itch going again and I realized how much I miss case modding.

I bought a few gently-used cases yesterday and have been planning out several designs in my head and even have a potential project sponsor for a build (benefit of having close ties to some of my suppliers at work), but I'd really like to complete a case/system for myself first to get myself back in the game and remind myself what I can do (Amateur/Intermediate).

Great forum guys, and I can't believe I haven't signed up here before! Or maybe I did and used a different username for some strange reason or was removed in a purge. No matter, I'm happy to be here now, and have to say I'm a bit overwhelmed by the awesome content here!

Thanks for the welcome!

@jakeyjoe - I'm opposite, I can finish a case itself (if they're really ever finished), but I tend to either get a bad mix of hardware and have issues or just get stuck figuring out how to complete the hardware setup, which I can see being a problem again. I've been buying higher-end Dell PCs for the last several years, and I'm a little out of the loop on new hardware. Guess my next project I'll have to work on both at the same time to make sure the whole system gets completed at once.

Welcome and hope to see your Mods soon.

My main system has a nickname of "Work in Progress" as up till a few years ago was constantly being upgraded, new case, new mobo, etc, etc.

My last few systems I made were that way. Unfortunately the one I spent a crapload of money on and heavily modded the case for seemed to crash every 6 months or so. Something was corrupting the hard drive. I'd have to wipe it, reinstall everything and start over again. I tried several different hard drives to see if I just had a bad one, but it was almost clockwork, every 6 months or so, it'd die. The hardware was all at stock, so nothing I did, other than poor choice/bad mix could have caused the issues in my mind. That rig was my 1st attempt (might actually have it somewhere in my shop) at a latest and greatest hardware build and my first case mod and was sadly, my last one. Think between the money/time/energy invested, seeing it all as a loss turned me off. Looking forward to making better informed decisions this time around. Other than the hardware problems, I really enjoyed the work.

Hmmm did you try changing the power connection to a different one, maybe a over volt from the PSU? Bad bridge? Sounds like a strange one and hope your next build is a happy one biggrin.gif Well best thing is if you have any problems post them here and we shall do our best to help in any way possible.

Thanks, I tried several things, can't remember what exactly, it's been a long time. The rig is still sitting somewhere in my shop. If it's in one piece, I might mess with it again, but it's a bit outdated now, so probably a lost cause. Might use the GPU though, I remember I spent a pretty penny on it back then. It should still be somewhat decent
