need stress test on laptop

Hi
I just bought a laptop and I am wanting some major stress testing software that will test everything in my system. The reason for this is that I bought 2 other laptops that where refurbed by the same company as my new laptop and I had to return them because they have major hardware failures. So I want to stress test this laptop a tun to make shore it doesn't and wont have any problems!

Thanks

It would help if you say your specs (do you have a graphics card, does it have an SSD?, what brand of hard drive or SSD?). There are different HDD/SSD diagnostics depending on brand. or you could run Windows' chkdsk to check for bad sectors.

Anyways..

MemTest, need to boot into this at startup. Run for 2-3 passes if you're tight on time (usually bad RAM will fail on the first pass), 8 hours will almost certainly find an error if there are any. http://www.memtest.org/ (use PendriveLinux if you want to put it on a bootable USB).

Intel Burn Test, or Prime95. There's not much point running it 24 hours for a laptop, but hey, why not? This also tests laptop's cooling ability (though a perfectly fine CPU could fail the test if it has bad cooling or dusty fans etc.).

HDD/SSD diagnostic.

Furmark if you have discrete graphics. This is pretty much a bad idea for laptops as it usually pushes graphics cards past the TDP.

Visually inspect the monitor for dead/stuck pixels. It'll most like show up with an all-white screen, but try various colors, white, black, yellow etc. to be safe.

Test the speakers, the keyboard, optical drive, webcam etc. That's pretty much all you can test.

Lastly it's not a good idea to get refurbs from anyone except directly from the manufacturer (best case), or if you really have to, from Newegg. 90 day warranty tells me they have no faith in their product lasting over a year. Well, it could also be to reduce expenses but when you consider that... they most likely have above-average fail rates in the first year.

Do you know the hard drive brand? It usually shows up under Device Manager. It might just say a model number, you could just tell me that.

So for the graphics, you still could try FurMark, perhaps for 2 hours (you can run alongside Prime95, then turn off Furmark and finish Prime95 overnight). You should make sure your room isn't really hot, laptop is on a table (metal surface would be best but not required), etc. Furmark pushes GPU temps probably 5-10C higher than normal gaming, which might make it shut down from overheating.
