I think I accidentally pirated a game - Page 4

Your friend just gifted you his game. Its his fault now that CD key is linked to your steam account. I don't think you friend can switch that to his account. Don't worry about it not like you have a cracked version of the game or anything

If you just put in the cd key and linked it to your steam, you're ok. Just dont download it and play it.
If you installed it, then tied it to your steam account, and DIDNT play it, you might be ok.
If you played it, its yours forever.

Steam has a pretty strict policy that once you play a game it cant be transferred or returned.
Such as with pre-orders, you can get your money back even if the game's release date comes and you install it. If you dont launch it, you can return it.

IIRC all of the above, of course rolleyes.gif

Edit: Since it was a physical copy, it can never be returned. But you should be able to gift it to your friend if you dont launch it.

Too late, I let him play it already

Buy a CD key from this site for $27:

http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/products/Call-of-Duty%3A-Modern-Warfare-3-Steam-Key-Scan.html?setCurrencyId=2

It's a russian CD key but it's easy to activate. Just make sure you follow the directions. That's what I did with this and tons of other games. That way you don't have to pay him back $60 for a game you probably didn't want.

not sure if serious,

unless said friend will be hacking, cursing, trolling, etc.. there will be no problem if said friend is just gaming.

how is steam gonna even know that you are sharing your account? lololololol abiding by TOS

Every time you log into Steam, an IP address is logged like with any website. You could play on two computers at once in Offline Mode, but a game like MW3 is meant to be played in multiplayer.

Pirating is more content COPYING, but the game you used was paid for legally. The problem is, you technically stole it from your friend. So, in pirating you're supposedly hurting the company, but now you just took it from your friend, the dev company couldn't care less.
