Hi

I have a Idea , My motherboard is ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 , and it supports Ivy bridge ... But Ivy is not in market ! But i can't wait till Ivy launch biggrin.gif ...

1. So i buy cheap i3 2100 and save $ 200 , use for 1yr until gen3 (ivy) launch and sell it in half or lower price. And then upgrade to gen3 i5 or i7 (Ivy)

2. I Build with solid i5 2500K and play until next rig ! (no Need for Ivy)

if u buy (i5 2500k- 17 2600K) it cost about 220-320 $ for CPU , if I buy i3 2100 with $ 120 ! I can save 100-200 $ on feature upgrades (for gen3)

it's sure that ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 is Gen 3 proof board ??

want to say anything ?? Gimme advices !!!

the entire PCIe 3.0 is only utilized when using an ivy bridge processor i'm pretty sure (not that it matters with the 7970, minimal performance decrease, who knows about future cards), I would look for a second hand 1155 i3 and grab ivy when it launches smile.gif

option 1: i like as will save you money if you want to go ivy, but just wait 6 months then sell it and buy your ivy i5 or i7
with option 2: yes you can wait until haswell but you will have to buy a new mobo as Haswell AKAIK is using a different socket, the lga1150, which is the sucessor of the lga1155 socket thumb.gif

yes, any lga1155 mobo will support Ivy Bridge as its backwards comaptable.. you may need a bios update.. the gen3 mobos are Ivy Bridge ready
yours the ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 is definatly Ivy bridge ready..
It will run two GPUs in xfire or sli in the PCIe 3.0 slots at x8 FYI.. tho PCIe 3.0 is yet to be benificial over PCIe 2.0 smile.gif

sorry bro but you are wrong this time H61 does not support Ivy have a Look HERE

as so OP the Maximus Gene-Z/Gen3 is perfect go on it future proof and a great overclocker devil.gif

That's not a bad idea. Sell the i3 or even keep it for a secondary build and then get Ivy Bridge. Or F both and get an i7 2600k, overclock it and don't look back. biggrin.gif
post #10 of 13
Definitely go i3 then get Ivy. Exactly what im doing. Plus the little i3 is no slouch either.
