Edit:
Also, let me know what the sticker around your mouse says. For instance, mine says "OPTICAL HIGH PRECISION SENSOR" while every other Spawn I've seen has "3500 DPI STORM TACTICAL SENSOR". I don't know if it makes a difference but I am curious.

Alright, so I got my mouse in today with my new mouse pad. The scroll wheel on my Spawn is very smooth and easy to turn up and down. So, if yours is feeling too hard too turn, sounds like that is an issue with the one you received. The feet on my mouse do have lines in it too, but I believe they are new and the lines are just from testing or were from the material to begin with.

The sticker on the bottom of my Spawn also says "Optical High Precision Sensor" instead of the 3500 one. I'm guessing the batch this store got are all like that? I was able to update the firmware to 32 and everything seems to be working so far, so I believe that it is indeed a case of mismatched stickers. Can someone verify if the mouse would work properly if you were to use Spawn drivers / firmware on a Xornet sensor?

I was a bit worried about how the mouse would fit my hand, but it really does fit like a glove. It's super light, comfortable, and the buttons are very easy to press and you get pretty good tactile feedback from them, even the middle mouse button. I have my mouse set to 1800dpi / 1000 polling as I hear that is a good setting to have it on. Seems like it'll take some getting used to as it definitely seems to track differently than my Logitech G5 did, but it really does seem to be a 1:1 movement without any acceleration. I've tested going slow and fast and it seems to be pretty accurate. I'm just not used to it yet, but nothing a few games of BF3 can't fix.

So, initial impressions are:

1) loving the shape
2) loving the light weight
3) seems to track perfectly fine on the qck+ with virtually no lift-off movement / jitter with FW32
4) buttons are very easy to click and have good tactile feedback

Will report back after a week or two of use to see if any issues or negatives arise.

And, why would they be discontinuing the Spawn? I thought that it was selling pretty well, no?

Thanks for your feedback. I ended up ordering another Spawn for cheaper than I purchased the first one for as a replacement and at the same time filed for a refund. So I will be sending this one back and receiving another on Wednesday. I completely agree with you on pretty much everything. The shape is perfect, the mouse is light, the button feedback is pleasant, the tracking is great. I have both the Spawn and G400 hooked up and after 2 days of using the Spawn I tried to use the G400 and the shape was just so unnatural that I could not use it for more than 5 mins before going back to the Spawn. I think this is a mouse I will be using for a very long time. Also, you should try firmware 61. It seems to a bit better than 32 with a bit higher LoD but not that much higher that it bothered me.

Will definitely be giving 61 a try after fiddling around with 32 for a bit. And where did you find it cheaper if I may ask?
I decided to order directly from Amazon this time around to maybe get a different batch and when I did I had some sort of promotion applied. I don't know why or how.

Item Subtotal: $38.95
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Promotion Applied: -$3.90
Total Before Tax: $35.05
Sales Tax Collected: $2.10
Shipment Total: $37.15

Only $1 and a couple cents cheaper.

EDIT: the 2nd Spawn arrived today. My first Spawn's scroll wheel was indeed faulty. The 2nd Spawn's scroll wheel is perfect and provides amazing tactile feedback. The stickers on the sensors are still the same but that doesn't bother me.

Does the spawn still ship with that thick inflexible cable? A while back a rep said they going to change the cable.

The cable on my spawn doesn't seem very thick at all to me. Seems like a pretty standard thickness, although the material they use definitely retains the coiled shape that it came bundled in. I'm sure it will straighten out plenty with use and It hasn't really gotten in the way whatsoever.

Good to hear man. Hope everything with the refund goes smoothly as well. I tried installing the 61 fw and it definitely seems to track nicely. I'm not minding the lift off distance very much and I'm actually already noticing the ability to aim a bit more precisely and quicker than with my g5. It's not just placebo either. My last few bf3 games have most definitely had a higher accuracy percentage, an average of 18-20% when normally it is around 15-16%. I can't wait to see if it gets even higher with continued use.

So far, a very happy customer! Just hope I don't have the paint-coating peeling issues as someone else seemed to have.

Glad you like it. I don't think I'll get the paint peeling issue because my palm does not make much contact with the mouse while gaming at all.
The cable could use a change though. It's not stiff or anything and doesn't bother me much but it does retain its coiled shape.

Now that I notice mine also has the OPTICAL HIGH PRECISION SENSOR sticker (and I bought it from a local retailer in Chile so it must be a pretty big batch).

I like the mouse a lot, don't get me wrong here because it is my main mouse now (maybe not for long), it still could use some improvements

1) Feels a little bit heavy to me.
2) Bottom skate coverage could improve
Something between the shape, skates and the weight makes it not glide like I'd like it to, I don't know exactly but there's like more friction than I'd like. (It's not weird to be picky round here).
3) The scroll wheel button is just too stiff for the size of the wheel. It definetively needs a better texture or it needs to be lighter to scroll.
4) The side buttons are not continuous to the grip, they are actually higher and you can't slide from the grip to the buttons

Don't buy this mouse !!!
I bought my Spawn 1 year and 1 month ago. Till now, I hadn't had any problem. But now, my warranty is over and my Spawn is no longer detected by the computer. It's weird because the sensor seems to be powered...planned obsolescence ?

An angry frenchy.
