I have only tested on a black cloth pad, but the max perfect control speed remained the same - over 4 m/s.

I don't have any light colored pads, but I don't see any reason for anything behaving different, as this mod only eliminates the excess light that should NOT be there. CM / Avago should really reconsider their lens design.

I think the problem with a high LOD of fw 61 and for other optical sensors for different black surfaces can be solved by changing the brightness of the LEDs.
For example, on a black surface the LED is brighter therefore the LOD is higher for fw 61.
A tape fix decrease the brightness of LED.
Is it possible to make the brightness of the LED changed programmatically?
And no need to change anything...

Another way use the decision of a4tech, look on their anti-vibrate mice series.

The 61 lod is considered high? Eh, as dark pads go the hayate is pretty good about lod. I'd need to compare but I imagine the Shinden makes it tiny.

Recon just got new firmware released. Can we expect anything for spawn soon? If this comment means what I think it does, both recon and spawn firmware was being worked on together, so spawn firmware is coming.

After some experimentation, I found the best way to use a tap fix. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I sealed with the tape slightly-more 1/3 lens. The brightness of LED decreased.
LOD is less than 1 CD! The sensor works much better than with a simple tape fix because I kept all of the sensor's area free. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

That's how I did mine up though I used electrical tape. Tried PTFE tape (to also act as an extra mouse skate) but it was a bit thick.

I just bought a newer Spawn with the "High Precision" on the bottom instead of the old 3500dpi writing. Side by side tests with firmware v61 shows that the newer Spawn has a somewhat lower LOD than the old one. Not sure why that is as it should be the same for both unless CM made a slight revision to it but doubtful. The old Spawn will serve as paint mod mouse... as soon as my laziness goes away.

Sticker doesn't mean anything, they just messed up a batch and put the wrong sticker on I heard.

OK so recently I ran into frame rate drops using this mouse. I was running teamspeak at the time but closing it did nothing. The problem went away when I unplugged my spawn. This was in dota 2 by the way.

I don't really know what else to mention. The people I was in teamspeak with told me I was cutting out and I was getting audio hang ups as well. If it was a PS/2 mouse I'd almost say there was an IRQ error.

This is a known issue if you use push-to-talk, especially if you use capslock.
