From the looks of it your mobo doesn't quite support Conroe, link here. And yes, there seem to be a few i945p based mobos that support C2D.

*EDIT Found something! If you have a 2.0 revision mobo or latter, than it supports C2D. The revisions before 2.0 do not support it. You may need only a BIOS update.

*EDIT2 - this is what some of the reviewer at newegg said:

REVISION WARNING

Pros: Good layout, trustworthy company, and installs easily.

Cons: Way too many revisions on this board, and Newegg may accidentally send you a revision that does NOT support Core 2 Duo processors, which happened to me. The only revisions that support Core 2 Duo is 2.0 or higher, and I was sent a 1.03G

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to be careful with things like this, and get rid of all the old models somehow.

Too Many Revisions

Pros: Overall this is a typical Asus board with all the necessary bells and whistles. It's clearly labled, good clearance around cpu socket, good amount of PCI slots and PCI express x1 slots, 4 ram slots. Board layout is good. That's where the the good things stop. NewEgg rocks, but they gotta stop buying so many of a motherboard. Revision 2.0 is available but NewEgg obviously has a stockpile of sub 2.0 boards.

Cons: There's a lot of revision of this board. In the span of 2 weeks I've gotten a 1.0, 1.03, 1.03g. I have yet to see a PCB revision of 2.0 which Asus says will support conroe. The current board I am dealing with is a 1.03g and I've tried 3 different brands of memory and it does not post, no video.

Other Thoughts: I hope NewEgg cycles through their stockpile of old boards soon.

adam ! how do you like your E6300?? Is it better than what you ever had in the past, have you overclocked it? I see E6400 for 200 bucks with only 2 MB L2 cache, and E6600 for 300 bucks with 4mb L2cache, would it matter much ?
or just the mear fact the I now have a C2D instead of Pentium 4?

if cash is a problem then the e6300 will still crap all over your p4, eat it up and then spit it back out

the 2mb of cache does make a difference but when the lower models of allendales/conroe are overclocked it makes up for it

Great guys, So what you're telling me is that the new E6XXX Core 2 duo's are very good? Are there comparisons out there that proves it, COU benchmarks that shows for example Pentium 4 cedarmill vs. Core 2 Duo E6400 ?

Also are you telling me that If I only update the Bios on my PD2LD5 Asus mobo , i'll probably be able to run the Core 2 Duo chip well?

Sorry for asking so much
