How well am I folding? *edited title

Thread Starter
Hello all I am trying to setup my rig to fold as best as possible. The rig constists of a 2500k and a 6950. I have read several guides and I am confused as to wich client I should use. I have downloaded multiple consoles to try to find which would be best. I would like to know what console is recommended and if my setup can handle the tweaks like -bigadv ect.

Thanks in advance and apologies for asking what has surely been asked 100s of times before.

Edit 1-29-12
Seems like I have the client 7 doing pretty well still open to suggestions on how to do better without having to go linux biggrin.gif

Well still not real sure I am using the proper setup numbers seem very low. Using the windows client 7 and running both gpu (advanced) and SMP(3) best I see is 20kish total . Considering the 2500k is OC @5ghz and the video card at 900/1325 the numbers seem low. Any help on the ideal setup for my sig rig would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance

(BTW I have asked in multiple threads ect.. this thread disappeared accidentally placed in wrong forum apparently)

20k does not seem like a bad PPD. My 2500k will get anywhere from 10-23K PPD depending on the WU. Some WUs are great and others are horrible. As for the GPU I cant tell you want kind of points are decent but keep in mind that ATI cards do not fold anywhere near as well as Nvidia.

well smp (3) so I can effectively run the advanced WUs for my video card pulls my ppd down to 7,145 on this 7611 WU. While the video card is at 8989ppd on a 11293 WU. I have seen higher numbers with just my cpu but that WU was only showing 9kish even with the gpu disabled and smp4... maybe its just a crappy cpu WU time shall tell.

No real experience with either of those two WU on my computers. I would just test it out for a little while. The 2500k at 5Ghz should be bringing in about 15K ppd on average. Maybe higher if you have better WUs and dont use the computer much. But like I said no idea about the GPU.

My advice would be let each run by themselves for a day or two and see how it goes. That will give you an idea for how your PPD should be from each of them. After that try both together for a couple of days and if the PPD takes a huge drop try limiting the CPU to 3 cores. Although I think keeping the CPU on 3 cores may be the best idea considering you are also folding on an ATI card. Every WU is different so it is best to look at the average over multiple WU to get an idea for how things are going.

I have never really run any -advmethods WU so cant really speak about them. However in my experience they are generally bigger and suffer more from minor problems so I just stay away from them altogether.

As a update I just picked up a 7022 work order and even with my smp3 setting its showing 33161ppd so must have just been a crappy WU

That PPD can't be right, wait a few frames, look in the log for actual frame times and put the numbers in here: http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php
The P7611 WU is one of the good ones for me, the P7022 are good WUs too but your number seems unusually high.

Pretty sure it was legit apparently while I was working I got a bsod >< probably need a little more voltage to sustain this 5ghz on what was apparently a tough WU. Folding I had never seen this machiine show higher than 60 but that WU was mostly 60 but peaking towards 70 with a lot of peaks and valleys looked like a rollercoaster ride for the cpu. It got to 89% before the bsod. Running it again now waiting for it to make a few runs before I can tell if its legit.

Sorry didnt expect it to clip the entire thing to clipboard but as you can see my computer was slamming that thing out might not have been the same one hard to say since I was gone a few hours. As I right this edit its done now. I got a 7001 now and temps are still rockn and rolling. It's showing about 28k for the ppd for the cpu on smp3 for this WU at 4%. Here is a screen shot of what my temps looked like during that 7022
