6600gt = no boot

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
OK guys here is thr problem:

I just got a 6600gt from Muffin, and it was a great buy.
However once installed the PC will freeze at BIOS, welll it will read the ram then stop bassically and leave me with "DEL:Setup, F11: Blah Blah"
Now does anyone know why this may be?

I highly doubt its the card as the Motherbaord has done this before with my mates 6600gt but i know it works because it was fine as soon as we put it back in his, also its not the ram.

Here is a link to my motherboard: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=470

Now i have BIOS version 7.3 and there is now a 7.5 out but this was only released on 2004-5-17. So i doubt support will be added or what not.

If any one has any suggestions they will be most appreciated, also i have put in the Molex connector in etc and changed ram slots.

Man this is bugging me, i dont want my 6600gt to go in a Packard Bell no OC'er lol

Have you made sure that you have connected all extra power to the card. Also make sure you have the latest BIOS version.

If this does not work try resetting your CMOS.

I will try resetting CMOS, and yes i have all power in.

I dont like BIOS flashing lol, but i will get the old floppy out if all fails.

Any other suggestions?

Make sure that the contacts on the card are clean...The contacts that go into the AGP slot. However only clean them with a 90% alcohol solution...NO WATER

The BIOS is the BRAIN of a system. Bios stands for BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM. When the BIOS develops an issue it will effect the system as a whole or atleast in some way. When you reset the BIOS it restores all the settings to its factory built defaults. When this is done on the next startup it will re-recognise all hardware within the system.

It may but i reckon things will be ok from now..Good luck..If you get problems a BIOS update will usually fix these issues.
