Painting a Armor Case !

Thread Starter
Ok just order a Tt Armor, (and yes, call me a copycat , cause if there where 2 version @ the store a painted 1 on the inside, and a unpainted 1, we all would choose a painted 1 ) and i want to paint it satin black on the inside.....

i was thinking of a primer and some car paint.... now i know alot of car shops for paint products (rofl sorry for my bad knowlegde of english words, i'm dutch ) but which kind of primer do i have to think about... and in which color ?

another question: where do you get the paper to tape some parts off so it dont get sprayed when you don't want to ? just your local paint shop ?

and further on... are there things that i need to think of when painting the case ? (i know not in the wind), do i need to sand it ? anything else ?

tips and tricks are welcome !

Look at this guide some n00b created

Replace the colorshift paint with black gloss. still make sure and buy some clear coat to make it havea show finish.

your painting a notebook with plastic cover.... still nicely done but the case i'm painting is metal, and paint sticks better to sanded plastic then it does to metal.

so still need some advice

EDIT: btw the paint on the armor is metallic black right ? same as the Tsunami Dream ?

You should be able to find a "Zink Chromate" primer witch is self etching and bonds to metals very well. Other than that varation for metal vs plastic, Spookys guide is excellent!
If you going with a satin black for the interior vs flat or gloss, some companys offer a "bumper black'' for the black out on urethane bumper covers. It sprays easily and evenly and can be easily repaired if necessary.

I used a primer that said it was good for metal on my girlfriends case and had no problems. It sounds like you already know something about painting. If you sand the surface of the metal lightly your primer will stick better. after the primer is on the steps are the same as in the guide. I didn't work as hard on my girlfriends case but results were close to the same.

check her case out here
. only the front is plastic

Well, did some years of painting RC cars (maybe you know tamia) with the plastic cover on the chassis, but this is still new to me cause its metal.... and because the case has so many eches you cant sand every part.... thats to much for... but i was thinking about useing washing gasoline (the 1 liter botlle just from your local store) to clean the surface.

and because this case is pretty expensive for me i dont want to f*** it up

btw are newspapers good enough to cover the parts i don't want to paint ? of cours i also have to use tape

EDIT: do you guys use car paint and primer or just get it at a paint store ?
