What low to mid range card should I go with?

Hey guys, thanks for helping me out! I am looking for an nVidia card that is fairly cheap, but will perform decently at 1920x1080 or 2560x1440. I rarely game, but when I do I prefer resolution over turning up the detail, so I was wondering what I should look for. Should I go with a GTX 550 or something like a used 1GB GTX 460? Or could I get by with something less powerful than that?

Thanks!

I can run Crysis at max detail with med. shaders and shadows at ~40fps on my GTS 450. You can get one for about 90$ if you find a good sale. A 460 1gb would work too. The 550 is pretty much the same as a GTS 450, so I woudn't bother with it. For higher resolution, you need more VRAM, so look for higher memory over other things since you prefer resolution.

Thanks. Is the 768mb version of the 460 inadequate at high resolutions?

Yes, you want AT LEAST 1gb, 2gb would be much better though.

We need to know your budget first. Go with 1GB card either GTX 550 Ti or GTX 560 if I had to take a shot in the dark.
