Looking for a new motherboard

Thread Starter
I'm running the asus M4a87td\evo, but the board is beginning to fail for the second time so i'm jumping ship from asus and going to any other manufacturer. What i'm looking for is a motherboard that can handle running a 1100t@ 4ghz or more without overheating the mosfets, 2PCIe x16 slots, and the more fan headers the better, with a target price around $150 or less. But I would really prefer a motherboard that doesn't require a clear CMOS jumper when overclocking. My current motherboard will just say" overclocking failed, press F1 to enter setup" If anyone has some insight i'd love to hear it.

Gigabyte 990FX UD3, the black one. Everyone seems to love it. Wish I had one too.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138341R Nice Motherboard
imo there's nothing wrong with asus..my motherboard is fantastic! thumb.gif Sabertooth was nice too.You need a heavy-duty board with plenty of
Heatsinked vrms/chokes/capacitors for your heavy-duty cpu

Your current board has unsinked vrms..this is most likely the problem

Is it a bad OC? or you just turned the switch off..My board does that, too.I hit f1 then f10 and roll!

you could sink your mosfets and point a fan at them..Notice the fan screwed into the side..450[/URL

These two seem to be the favorites... I have the bottom one. I have no regrets. Yes the top one is more expensive but I still think its worth saving the extra cash personally. thumb.gif

Wonderful replies thank you, I was looking at the gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 and the MSI 990FXA-GD65. Tho I will say this Schmuckley, I liked asus, and i woul;d have gone asus if i had not had bad experien ces, but my first board died and didnt post, I assume mosfet failure, i got a RMA and then the one i have now the LAN controller is dying, I contacted asus, and mid chat(the on site chat) i aws told they where closing now, and ended session. 3 strikes is all I stand. Tho that sabertooth is enticing

Highly recommend the Sabertooth. I think its the best AMD board on the market. The thing is freaking bulletproof. Itll handle enough voltage to weld with. I understand getting 2 bad boards and their customer service is quite lacking but I think its worth it to stick with them for another round. I just think they make the best motherboards on the market. HardOCP always raves about them and their staff seem to always use Asus in their own personal builds. Their testing procedures are the toughest on the net and Asus and Gigabyte and the ones that always come out with gold stars. So if youre just dead set against Asus, Id recommend a Gigabyte 990FX.

Fair enough, I've narrowed it down to GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 or the sabertooth, I think i'll go with the UD3 for the fact it's not asus, and that cloud overclock looks like just the ticket., to be able to use any of my older computers as a "command center" to watch temperatures and voltages and adjust on the fly is great, not the question is, i heard alot of people complain about the 990fx northbridges getting hot, is this still a problem? I have absolutely overkill airflow but figured it might be something to worry about. And yes i'm a worrywart
