EVGA GTX580 SLI problems (artifacts & crashes) maybe PSU? - Page 2

Those all sounds like great things to try from EVGAMatt. I would also add as someone mentioned above to when trying drivers (of which I like the latest WHQL and the 266.58) make sure to do a custom install and then check clean install. It might also not be a bad idea to try a run of driversweeper if you've ever had an ATI card in the machine or if you've just done a whole lot of Nvidia driver installs without a clean install. Past those two things I would do everything EVGAMatt suggested but as a last precaution before condemning your PSU I would get the opinions of some people in the PSU section and see if they believe it could be PSU.

Also if you're using Afterburner to overclock or anything to restart it, hit Reset, then open it back up.

Then us OSD to monitor everything while in the benchmark, game, etc..

You also might try downclocking your cards and lowering the voltages too. If your previous card was overclocked and you tried them one-by-one then added the second without resetting Afterburner could cause issues too. (Had an issue with my 470's doing that.)

Edit - Also, 850w should suffice for your configuration. I did when I tested some 580's in SLI and currently is taking my 4.7Ghz overclock on my 2600K + my 470's @ 1037/800/1500/1700. Although judging by the price and reviews of your PSU, it should "handle" it, but I'm going to agree with what others are saying.

Reinstall your drivers but follow this method to a T. I have condensed it all into what sounds good for me, so if you want, PM me and Ill send you my version. But ive done this and its worked without a hitch.

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=1174372&mpage=1#1174372

and there is also one that is essentially the same here on OCN
http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers

The key is getting those registry remnants. Also, uninstall all overclocking software and delete their remnants from the registry too, as part of this process. I was getting problems until i decided to uninstall afterburner (problems even when it wasnt turned on or starting with windows) and then deleted the registry remnants and I havent had an issue. Sometimes you just have to . Plus, since your in SLI theres really no need to overclock the cards since you're running two factory overclocked cards anyways. Hope that helps.

Maybe if you live close to a home depot or something you could go pick up a kill-a-watt for like 12 bucks. I bought one for piece of mind on my corsair hx750 when I moved to 580's from a single 5870. I almost fell into the hype that I would need 1000+ watts to successfully run SLI 580's but now I run 2 lightning xtremes and barely touch 650 watts under full usage.

Now that we're on the topic of MSI Afterburner, if you're using it or any other HWM or OSD program, fully uninstall it for the time being, or disable it from running on start-up for diagnostic purposes at this time.

Thank you everyone. I am reinstalling the drivers as we speak and I am doing a full reinstall (deleting all Nvidia folders, registry files, etc) So it's taking a bit of time.

E-Peen thanks for the heads up. I'll disable Afterburner.

Guitarmageddon, I am using that same guide :]

Well, that took longer than expected... Windows kept re-installing the drivers by itself -.- so I had to turn off the internet connection.

So I finished everything and drivers still crash... Games also crash. Guess i'll be on the search for a new PSU then...

Thank you everyone. Your help is greatly appreciated. +Rep for everyone, you deserve it. I'll now pay a visit to that PSU forum juano posted.

That will most probably take a little while since I live in Puerto Rico (I will also be raped with shipping - Newegg wants $55 shipping for a darn PSU) but I most certainly will post results.
