headphones/headset suggestion

Thread Starter
I've used Siberias/Steelseries these past years but my headset mic is glitchy and everyone keeps saying my mic is messed up and sounds like static so it is time to get some new headphones/mic or headset. I noticed that people here hate headsets. I don't really care about the sound quality when it comes to music but prefer quality towards gaming for fps, etc. And for price range...hmmm I'm not willing to shell out more than 125-150 and that's already pushing it. I like to spend money on something that is good and will last me a long time instead of buying something cheaper that I may have to replace in a year or less.

For that price-range, the best positional audio you're going to get is through an Audio-Technica ATH-AD700.

For a mic, there's plenty of options, a lot of people enjoy the Zalman clip-on mic for about $10. Personally, after many 'cheap' mic solutions and one issue or another, I've settled on a Samson GoMic (about $32 from B&H), its crystal-clear and loud as you'd want for gaming.

Both items together fall under your $150 price constraint. GL

Ok cool thanks. I was looking at the AD700 and A700. Is the only difference between them being open and closed? I might be considering getting the ATH-A700.

No, impedance, sensitivity, frequency response, its a different headphone. The A700 is a nice headphone, especially if you want a lot of what the AD700 has to offer with a bit more bottom end (at the cost of some soundstage), and isolation (not complete isolation).

Ok so I'm finally going through on ordering my new headphones...I'm just stuck on between whether to get the ATH-A700 or ATH-AD700. Like I said before, I primarily use it for games so what do you guys suggest?

If primarily for gaming AND you don't mind the open-back design leaking noise in and out, I would say the AD700 since it offers a wider soundstage. That being said, I game on a closed back AT and although the soundstage is smaller, I can still tell directional steps (just can't gauge distance of those steps as well).

If it's for fun in games, the A700 are better.

If it's for a competitive edge in games, the AD700 is what you want.
