Seeking OC Advice. Asus Mobo - No VRM Cooling - 1055t 6 Cores

Thread Starter
I'm a beginner at overclocking and this motherboard doesn't help things. I had never heard of mosfet cooling until I spent TWO weeks researching how to overclock this board. Instead of writing a long post, I'm just going to ask for general advice about what I can do to squeeze a little extra juice out of this system. It performs pretty well actually, but a 5-15% increase would be great.

Question: Would applications and games that DO NOT take advantage of x6 Cores be faster if I disabled 2 cores and ran with x4 cores? For those of you familiar with the turbocore technology, would it boost the performance of my computer under full load?

If the above answers are both true, is there any merit in having 6 cores initialized in Windows 7? Sure, Battlefield might only take advantage of 4 cores at a time, but during the game what are the other 2 cores doing? Does core utilization rotate from core to core? While the 4 cores are running the game, can the other 2 cores be doing Windows stuff in the background? That might be a dumb question but if Windows 7 64bit can utilize 6 cores, it could be relevant.

I kind of went off a tangent about cores but any other general advice would be great. I've helped the mosfet issue a bunch by flipping the ceiling fans in my case to blow over them (exhaust is right next to them as well). I also installed a Hyper 212.

Hopefully someone reading has experience with this mobo and can give me some BIOS settings to try. I would like to keep the turbocore technology active because it runs cooler & with less power until I start a game - then the multipliers increase. Thanks in advance, guys.

Disable turbo, let coolnquiet enebled, put multiplier to 18.5 so that the coolnquiet works and adjust vcore manually to 1.40.if it is stable you can try push higher or just lower the voltage.

No VRM cooling = Don't overclock. Better to be safe than sorry IMO. As far as cores go, it depends. Some programs will use all the cores you have got and some will only use one core.

Asus mobos have overdraw protection,so if all works as planned it will just shut-down not explode, catch fire etc.You can get some chip coolers for the VRM's.I've found a halo-framed pull fan on your CPU cooler works well also, like theCM excalibur

Interesting. Okay, I'll try that first to see what happens

i'd disable two cores..sink the fets and point a fan at them
here's a good overclocking guide http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/official-gappos-little-deneb-thuban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys/0_20

Thanks for the link Schmuckley, I've been messing around the past few days. My case has pretty good air flow and, after finding out about this mosfet thing, I reversed my top/ceiling fan to blow cool air over it.

I'm am pretty confused at what settings to change in my BIOS to achieve optimum performance. It seems like this ASUS bios has different settings than most guides I look at. I took the time to photograph all my bios screens and hwinfo if anyone feels like throwing their 2 cents in. And Schmuckley, I can't change the multiplier it doesn't seem like. (???)

Battlefield 3 uses all 6 cores! do you need screen shots for proof ?? look at my video at widescreengamingforum.com if you dont believe me.. IT pushes all 6 cores at 75-100% when I run my crossfire eyefinity setup
