Well I have to buy bulldozer to get the 120 dollars off for motherboard purchase but I heard some microcenter won't honor the deal so I have to call them up tomorrow and see what's up

Even though it has 3 PCIe x16 slot you most likely will be able to use 2 only. See that third slot is right under the second slot? When you CF it will be blocked by the GPU.

Biostar is actually a pretty good brand. They generally are known for budget MB but they do release some nice MB from time to time (and they are a reliable manufacturers). The one I linked is one of the popular AM3+ MB.

This may help. Just bear in mind this is the top end FX-8150 vs the Q6600. Still beats it like a red-headed step child, though.
In gaming the Q6600 would probably be about the same at stock speeds. The FX-8150 is not much faster than a 2.4Ghz C2Q at stock speeds.
Source.

I would strongly suggest looking at an i5-2400/i5-2500K.

First a Quad Q8400 is not a q6600. second have some first hand exp with both models before you say one is better than the other.

I had a QX6700 and upgraded to an FX-6100. The fx-6100 BEAT every score I got with the QX6700, and out performs it in every thing I do.
My gpu never loaded out on the QX, on FX it does.

To OP, You will notice an improvement in every thing you do upgrading to the FX-6100. you should easly get it over 4Ghz on air. Expect about 4.2Ghz or so. I dont have any exp with the 970 chipset but love my sabertooth with the 990FX chipset.

Ask in the BD thread to get more info about what your looking for in a mobo for your FX if you get one.

No. Clock for clock a Q6600 is the same as a Phenom II X4. And with BD being more or less the same as Phenom II, there is no point in upgrading. Go for Sandy/Ivy.

There's a negligible performance difference between the Q8400 and Q6600 in games.

You have a single GTX 460, there should be no difference in performance between a Q6600 (with a minor overclock) and the FX-6100 in gaming for you.

The benchmark clearly shows the Q6600 isn't much slower than a FX-8150 at stock. The FX-8150 is faster than the FX-6100 so the Q6600 should perform just as well as the FX-6100 at stock speeds.

Conroe has higher IPC than Phenom II; the C2Q is faster core for core and clock for clock. Phenom II has higher IPC than BD. Therefore, the Q6600 has a higher IPC than BD also.

Well there is a difference in performance between the two, and my QX6700 was overclocked to 3.4Ghz prime95 stable on water. not a minor oc at all for that cpu.
Since a comparison of a real life person and not some review site is what you seem to need, here you go.

The scores in these benches are my absolute best on the QX6700, the FX scores are quick benches during testing. 3d11 was done just now and the system has been running over 18hrs and I didnt close any thing running in the back ground.
For the 3dmark 11 score you just have to deal with out a side by side as I can only have one score saved and do not want to over write my QX score as I want it as a refrence to keep on the orb. It is the 3414 score in the top left of screen shot and its with the same GTX460.

You fail to understand how well BD overclocks and scales. Which with people like us you have to take into account. none of us are going to run stock, we are going to get the most out of our hardware we can.

In the cinebench screen shot the 2 scores marked in green are the FX the one marked red is the QX, again the FX scores are not my best the QX is the best.

Had to register to post to this. I used and still use a q8400 @3.6ghz for the past 4 years +. Folding 24/7/ main gaiming PC. Great cpu and I really had no reason to upgrade. Wanted to try the new AMD fx cpu's . Set up a new system with a fx 8120. Even at stock it out performs the older q8400 in every game Ive played with a gtx 580. It also folds more ppd and scored higher in cinebench 11.5 all stock while the q8400 was overclocked to 3.6. I have not even clocked up the 8120 as im happy with it as is for now (new toy). I read all the reviews from hard ocp and all the others. I knew what i was getting. Just wanted to tinker with new hardware. I can say im happy with it and I dont trust everything I read on the internet. The reviews are only a guide and for me I got alot better results than I was expecting. Clock for clock the core2 quad may SLIGHTLY have more ipc. All the fx chips are clocked alot higher and will overclock alot higher as well. Both cpu's @ stock speeds the fx will kill a core 2 quad. You dont even want to get into overclocking as the fx will leave the old Intel in the dust. You also get newer mainboard specs sata 6gb and usb 3.0.
