AMD Performance with Saints Row 3

Thread Starter
I've got a HD6950 coming in next week, but I've been doing some research and it seems like AMD's drivers are horribly optimized for Saints Row 3.

Many posters on forums like Guru3D and Steampowered are stating that they cannot get >40 FPS in the game at 1080p on high settings with high-end cards like 6950s or 6970s, whereas midrange NVidia cards like GTX 560s can easily reach those framerates.

Has anyone tried SR3 with the newest Catalyst drivers? How was the performance?

I'm currently getting around 40-50 FPS outdoors and 60 fps indoors with my temporary GTX 560 (non TI) using max detail settings and 2X AA/16X AF. Would the 6950 at least be able to match those framerates in SR3?

Here are some examples of the threads I was talking about:

I was getting 40 FPS with my Hawk on Lowest! Turns out my computer was trolling and wanted to fold, while playing SR3 biggrin.gif

I have a few friends that played SR3 Perfectly on a 6950 flashed to 6970. Same thing really. Also if there was a problem like that, the Dev's would be going crazy to fix it.

Do you know if they were using ultra settings with AA/AF enabled? I don't mind if the 6950 only gets the same FPS as a GTX 560 in this one game...as long as it can at least match what the 560 can do.

Played some SR3 last night to see performance with my new HD 7970's in Xfire. Performance was terrible to say the least. With Crossfire enabled I was reaching 60 fps with vsync off, albeit with major stuttering. With a single HD 7970 I was getting roughly around 50 fps. Again, absolutely HORRIBLE performance. My old 570 was easily averaging around 60 fps at stock speeds. Tried some Batman AC also, same crap.

Frankly, I'm extremely frustrated at the lack of support for AMD cards in gamescurrently. It's disgusting.

I played SR3 just fine without one stutter on a 4890 then upgraded to a 6950 on the same install and maxed it out w/o one issue. Not one crash not one microstutter not one lag.rolleyes.gif

You're generalizing way too much. AMD single card support is as good as NVIDIA's in 99% of games and practically all major titles.

Drivers and patches pretty much fixed all the issues it was having months back. Can't comment on 7900 CFX. Worked perfectly fine on my single 7970 and 6990 though (max settings @ 1080p 120hz)

Just registered: check

SR3 runs great here 7970 xfire, and I have 580 sli for a basis of comparison. The 7970 xfire definitely stomps it.

Assuming you're not a shill, ELCID, you should be using the AMD 1/9 web driver or the 1/19 beta driver (posted on catalyst creators twitter). OP you will be fine but you won't be able to run ultra settings , you will dip below 60 fps. There's a LOT of eye candy in SR3 such as SSAO and such
