Please help: Black Ops causes driver crash and choppy framerates on overclocked Sapphire HD6850

Thread Starter
I'll get straight to the point

I overclocked my Sapphire HD6850 to 920Mhz Core clock and 1100Mhz Memory Clock, with Sapphire TRIXX I am able to maintain this by increasing the voltage to 1.225V(MSI Afterburner wouldn't unlock voltage control no matter what I do)

This OC is pretty stable for me for the past week or so, none of my games crash and I've stressed my GPU with Furmark at 1600x900(Native) and 4xMSAA and it keeps a stable 17FPS while the temperature hovers around 80 degrees Celsius.

But weird thing is, whenever I try playing Black Ops, the game would freeze during the loading screen cinematics and my video driver would crash and restart. To be able to bypass this, I can increase my voltage to 1.235V or reset all the clocks to default.

Further more, when I'm actually in the game, the framerates would drop dramatically, almost like a mini-freeze, whenever I head into a new area where a substantial amount of rendering happens at once, say a set-piece like just before you exit the villa after killing Castro in the first mission. I've tried to reset my clocks or increase the voltage but neither helps.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with my problems, all suggestions are welcome(Including those concerning my clocks and just basically everything). Thanks in advance, guys.

This looks similar to the infamous Bad Company2 + Afterburner crash. That was a nasty one, many users (myself included) had their system rebooting out of nowhere when running those 2 at the same time...later on, it turned out to be Punkbuster issue with Afterburner.

I suggest you try to not overclock or overclock with a different method and see what happens. CCC overclock was fine for me when playing BC2.

Simple, the overclock is Furmark stable but not Black Ops.

To really reset the overclock; click reset in Trixx and restore factory defaults in CCC.
