He might be able to achieve 4.5ghz. I'd certainly bow down to his chip and overclocking skills if I could see that thing running tests that prove the speed. But a CPU-Z validation link alone really shows me nothing. I "Can" boot my system at 4.5ghz, run CPU-Z get it validated and call it stable. I'm gonna try and see if he shows tests with that speed

There is only a 200 Mhz difference between a 955 and a 965. The overclock rate is still random. You could get a 980 that wont hold 3.8Ghz stable to save its life, but find a 955 that can hold 4.2 stable. Its all random. The only difference between any of the CPU from 955-980 are just the stock clock speed.

Having a solid mobo helps a lot I have found.

Interesting interesting. I'd still love to see his testing. But I doubt I ever will, he's not posted since 2010 or whatever

This thread is a total reminder to where I was a year ago. Although, I crapped out a tad higher. After that I just started playing with memory in clock limited settings.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss claims of 4.5 on air. I did some benches at 4.250 @ 1.48 on a Core Contact Freezer.

I could bench 1M superpi with my own 955 @ 4,4GHz, using 1,55V. However there's no way I can even get it to 4,5GHz without getting a BSOD.

I don't say I don't belive he could get it to 4,5GHz with 1,55V but it's kind of unbelievable to think he could get it 100% stable with that voltage.

If that's true I think that's not just a golden chip but bore like a platinum one wink.gif

I think I'm going to tear down and redo the thermal paste under the NH-D14 cooler, because I had a play last night with Prime95 and ended up with the following temps:

max 60degC @ 3.99GHz, 1.425Vcore
max 64degC @ 4.01GHz, 1.425Vcore (failed <5min)

now (stock after update to 2002 BIOS)

max 51degC @ 3.2GHz, 1.4Vcore

I suspect they seem a little high for an NH-D14 in a good case, so I'd rather reseat everything and see how it goes after that. I can revisit crossfire now that the BIOS is updated while everything is still running @ stock as well, hopefully alleviating the need to RMA the CH4F.

edit: forgot to mention I am in quite a hot part of Australia (Townsville, QLD)

How hot? My silver arrow can hold my 955BE at 4.0Ghz and 2800CPU/NB with 1.475v on the CPU and 1.35 on the CPU/NB and my silver arrow can keeps temps in check in a 90f/35c room just fine. I think you need to reseat that bad boy.

Hello fellow 965BE users! smile.gif

well I am just going to post a pic, and ask the common question... are my temps OK?

519

the room tempereature is around 30*C.

runing a loop with 360mm of radiator, only cooling CPU.

any thoughts? smile.gif

Those are ok temps for that voltage. Is it stable? and what is your CPU/NB freq and voltage?
