Looking for final feedback on a new build

Hey guys, just looking for a final "sanity check" before proceeding with my proposed build below. If you see something that looks off, has a better similarly priced option, or anything else that otherwise needs tweaking, please let me know!

What's your budget? How much are you prepared to pay for a CPU cooler?

No specific budget- the selected parts are around the overall build quality I am looking for, but I am flexible to drop down $20-$30 or so more on any given component for noteworthy improvement. Willing to go beyond even that if you are aware of something truly exceptional though. (If that isn't helpful, let's go with $1.5K-$2.0K as a general guideline.)

Wouldn't expect to go much beyond $40-$50 for the CPU cooler, but again, if there is something notably better just beyond that I would love to hear it.

I would look to a higher end air cooler regardless if this is gaming or OC or both. Maybe the 212 or noctuna or even look at cooler master. Or with a higher end build like this I would recommend you look into water cooling as well I mean it may be a but more expensive but you could an enclosed unit like the H60 for about your asked price.

Build looks good, as for cpu coolers I am a huge Noctua fan but i've heard good things about the hyper 212 and all of thermalright's stuff the Corsair water cooling units aren't worth it imo. And just on a side note why are you spending extra $$ on a 1000 watt power supply. Even if you upgraded in the future to 2 7970's you shouldn't need more than an 850 watt (Corsair highly recommended) so save money there and buy a good cpu cooler and get your 2500k to a good 4.3 or get a 2600k.
IF you can find the extra money buy a 60-120gb SSD its and incredible performance increase in boot and load times just use an old HDD for big storage

I really like the corsair watercoolers. They do the job they are suppose to, fairly cheap, and are much softer on the ears.

Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback thus far. A few thoughts on what you have told me...
  • I intended to get a PSU capable of handling a second 7970 were I decide to get one down the road- 850watts is more than enough for that I will definitely drop down from the 1000W.
  • As the computer will be primarily for gaming, I am told that the extra money for the i7 isn't really worth it (since hyperthreading offers no benefits at present.
  • I hadn't really considered water cooling, but the price doesn't look unreasonable. Is the H60 really all in one, or are other aftermarket purchases going to be needed? I was also curious as to how difficult water cooling systems are to install and if being in a system that may "move" would be a problem. I have built a computer before without any real difficulties, but at a glance the water cooling installation looks pretty daunting. The computer will also make periodic trips between the office and living room for putting things on the big screen, and I was curious if moving around a water-cooled system is a recipe for disaster.

The only other thing I am reconsidering is the 7970. The premium is pretty high at the moment, and I am debating whether I should grab 6970 instead or wait for the 7870s to come out. As I understand if the 7870 will be a pretty good jump up from the 6970 without the "enthusiast premium" being charged for the 7970. It seems like the 7870 would be the best choice for getting a powerful machine without getting beat-up too bad on price. Would love to hear your thoughts

Thanks again for all the help guys.

I really can't recommend the corsair water cooling units, but if you do get one be sure to get better fans and moving it isn't an issue and hooking it up is simple. As for graphics if your doing 1080p gaming on one screen i can't justify spending that kind of money on the 7970. Wait for lower end 7 series or new nvidia stuff or hit up ebay do some bidding and get your self a good gtx 570 its currently what i use for 1080p nvidia 3d vision gaming there is nothing it can't handle fully maxed out.. Crysis, Metro, BF3 all of it. P.S. gtx 570 is less than 300 bucks on ebay or you may could get a 7950 for around $450 new
