Yep. 550 Ti / 6770 is all he'd really need at that res but for the price the 6850 / GTX 460 is a much better deal. I used to have 6850 CF, they were great cards even for 1080p, at that res he'll be maxing every game with 16x AA with one of those.

For reference, a 5670 has less than half the power of a 550 Ti and can run BF3 at 1280*1024 with High settings and some AA whist pulling 20-35 FPS. I'd be incredibly surprised if a 550 Ti didn't run BF3 on ultra settings at that resolution.

68xx series is so underrated.

@1280*1024 with a SINGLE 6850 you should be able to pull very high frames and have very high AA settings, I've never ran the test myself but 50-60 fps sounds very reasonable on ultra and 8-16x AA. Though when you have a big map with 40+ players this would likely be lower.

well, would a 6850 be a little overkill for my resolution?

dang!
its overkill but that would be best tho im sure BF3 could do 40-50fps at that resolution with a 460GTX on high or maybe ultra with AA off or maybe 2x AA. also to i ran Crysis 2 with the Texture pack and DX11 wink.gif

also to i wanna add the 6850 is rather equal to the 460 in terms of Performance

If it lets you pull 60 fps in games with maxed settings then it isn't overkill. It's just a really good card at a really nice price point. If you can find a GTX 460 for less then get that, otherwise I'd say just pick up a 6850.
