[TechRadar] The ultimate recyclers: making new PCs from old - Page 3

What an awesome idea. It good to see that spread of GNU/Linux and also to show people that you do not need to go to best buy/etc and buy $1500 overpriced hardware to do everyday normal tasks. Countless times where people buy overpriced pre-builts. Even though there are much better distro options than ubuntu that they could use such as Debian, OpenSUSE or even Arch(i know for arch, you need to have some GNU/Linux skills and know what you are doing to set it up and install/etc, but i say Arch because since it is so customizable they can make is very streamlined, and even have a custom installer for their streamlined arch install).

I've been doing similar with old parts I find/get from broken PCs the owners leave with me after attempted repairs, just it takes me a lot longer to get a working one. Used my Core 2 Duo along with a 230w FSP PSU, two 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7s, an old acer case and assorted fans to make a decent box to play older games on Windows 98 and XP.
