I'm trying to build budget build for one of my friend's. He is looking at shopping at microcenter and frys. Here is what i have so far totaling $671.98 and $651.98AR. What do you guys think? This will be a gaming/school work computer and hope to keep for a while. Thanks

You are overpaying for your PSU by more than $30.  Find a different PSU at Microcenter as there are several higher quality PSUs - or ignore getting one from Microcenter at all.  Get the Rosewill Green RG630 from Newegg and it will provide you with even more power pushing capability (check the 12V rail ratings) for a $5 less than that CX600's after rebate price.

You can get a 500GB 7200RPM HDD (2x the size) for $20 less at NCIX (link here)

8120 is just a terrible processor. if you want to future proof a 2500k would be a lot better

Where is the cooler?

If the motherboard is free, why charge 1 cent on total? PSU and HDD are overpriced.

Your build is good, minus a CPU cooler and overpriced parts. I take it you want AMD CPU, hence you post it in AMD section?

Looks good to me. Thats a really solid $700 build. Maybe getting a cheap CPU cooler so he can overclock that 8120 would be a good addition. The 8120 really shines when overclocked.

Cash saved on the PSU and HDD by ordering online will help towards that aftermarket heatsink thumb.gif

$5 more for a DDR3-1600 kit will signficantly improve your flexibility with the mobo's ref clock when you are working with the CPU; in clocking ability and binning a DDR3-1600 kit is far ahead of DDR3-1333.

+rep. Alright thanks for the suggestions, I went with AMD due to the price and MC free mobo deal. Intel is better but at a cost. I switched out the 1333mhz for the 1600mhz. I have a D14 and H50 coller laying around. Will they work with the 8120? He might just push the 8120 at far as he can with stock voltage.

I did find another PSU at Frys for $59.90(even less if i use employee discount) and this Hard drive for $49.99.

This brings the total $572.20 and $542.70.

EDIT: What does you guys think about this card. Its for $179.99 and $159.99AR and i can have it here by Wednesday. That drops it down to $522.21AR

Nice nice but again that 6870 is only a 7% increase in FPS. Which isn't anything at all so I would get that 6850 just trying to help thumb.gif
