For what it's worth, I find my esata port is my savior when it comes to storage. I've got a 256gb m4 + 750gb 7200rpm drive. Having esata totally negates the need for more storage as there I more than enough of a storage buffer and transfers to the externals are super fast. External raid over esata is amazing, it's more reliable than raid 0, and potentially just as fast.

I go to friends places with my laptop, i understand. But i honestly wouldn't spend more then 5k if you're getting just a laptop. Simple reason for this is in 2 years you can get another 5k laptop and sell the old one! thumb.gif

How come people on this forum build 5,000 dollar desktops, and it's a big deal if I buy a laptop of the same price?

Am I damaging everyone's giant desktop ego?

I thought you made this thread for advice? Perhaps just consider relevant suggestions about configuring a laptop instead of asking rhetorical questions and you'll get more help.

http://www.falcon-nw.com/laptops/drx Id start there and customize my own if I had 10k to drop on a laptop. However I just used the site and it came to 5900 for sli 580s, 990x, 3 256gb ssds and 24gigs of ram.... Looks like you got another 4k to build a destop with lol.

I'd be building a top of the range desktop and then use whatever i had left (and that would probably be 0 ) and then i'd buy a laptop. $10,000 on a laptop, good luck finding that mate.

No such thing as a performance laptop you say? There's many mobile workstations that would beg to differ.

OP - Wanna blow $10k on a mobile computer, something like the Dell Precision 6600, Eurocom Panther 2 or the Falcon DRX. Of course these are workstations, tho they have the power, they're not necessarily great for gaming. To really get that price up you'd have to go with a pro graphics card like the Quadro 5000

He's got a VERY valid point though. I don't see the problem here. What's wrong with someone building a monster laptop rather than a monster desktop? If you think people here are crazy for thinking this way, try talking to the people over at forum.notebookreview.com and come back with your findings. The Alienware nuts over there are insane.

If you're seriously considering buying something like this and want the best, wait until around March-April time frame until the P270HM comes out. If you want to buy the best you can get right now, I say get the P180HM and rock it out with the max specs. I think the highest I priced it was somewhere around $8k, just for fun.

Well I was mistaken as the total came out, specced to the highest degree possible, to $7,378:
