Upgrade to the Dual 6990M, and also i7-2960XM.
Throw in a few 250GB Intel 510 and a Blu-Ray drive.
Should still be around 5 grand.

Isn't this thing thicker than the alienware? I'm really looking at the m18x....never thought dell would come through..

My father has an alienware and the mobo went on it. Have they ushered up better quality builds?

Could have just been unlucky. I haven't heard complaints of their quality, just their prices

Depends on how old your dads Alienware is, The newer ones have really sturdy hardware and on top of that just get the Advanced 4 year warranty, You don't necessarily need everything maxed out on that build but make sure you get the 2x SSD in raid and dual GTX580m and you'll be blazing through BF3 Ultra with good frames. thumb.gif

I love my m14x. It's one of the most solid laptops I've ever held. Bested a sony and toshiba I used to have.

Not sure if I'm reading it right, but the m18x is 25lbs? Man that's going to be a workout carrying that around all day happysmiley.gif

Personally, I'd go with a Alienware over a Sager. Yes I realize I posted a Sager in my post, but here is the reason I would stay away.

- Sager's customer service is complete garbage from what I've heard.
- Build quality is also so-so.

The two best laptops right now are the Sager 8180 and the Alienware M18x. They're just as powerful as one another, but the Sager is cheaper and the Alienware has switchable graphics, that's about all there is to it. I went with the Alienware because I like the idea of portability if it's ever needed.

Also, the M18x is about 13lb

Any laptop capable of all that WILL OVERHEAT badly. So really, just stick to the desktop for hardcore gaming and get yourself an ipad2 for other shizzle.
