I'm about to throw money away... - Page 9

I've noticed with just about anything you buy if you spend a small amount of money you don't get a lot. You spend a little more and you get a lot more. But as you spend more and more you see less and less of a performance increase. I spent about $1500 on my sig rig. If I dropped $10,000 on a gaming computer, yes it would be way better but I don't think you would notice it all that much. I still get 60 fps in skyrim @ 5760x1080. So why would I get anything more than a 6950 if I can max everything I throw at it?

If I had $10,000 right now I would buy a Tahoe lol.

What's funny is that I don't own a camera, yet I have the money to buy a laptop. I think i'm going to look for a bad ass video camera now....

Can someone proof read these aftermarket parts? I'm so ignorant when it comes to laptops. Mind you this is for an Alienware m18x.

Does anyone know where I can buy a car charger and extra battery for the m18x?

I understand that you want to waste money, but don't buy those OCZs, $2,000 for a 1TB of OCZ crap.

I think you would be happier with these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148444

Also why 16GB? Why not 32GB? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220621

Can't argue with those selections. I forgot about the lock too.

How about the ram though? I kind of wanted some performance ram, 1333 is a little on the low side. In a laptop, won't you see a bigger difference between 16 bg of 1866 vs 32gb of 1333?

DDR3 1600 is the fastest that an i7-2960XM can use; I'm pretty sure the same goes for Ivy Bridge. If you can't utilize 32GB, then getting 32GB is pointless. I have 8GB, I could realistically see 16GB being of use, no clue how people could use 32GB on a laptop lol.

Well hold on there. Rendering a couple videos simultaneously at 4k or 8k resolution will DEFINITELY utilize a good chunk of that 32 gigabytes. It's definitely possible.

...But who is going to render multiple 4k videos at the same time when there are no monitors that even support it...

Just saying biggrin.gif

I don't agree with spending so much on a laptop, but I'm disappointed in the professionalism in this thread :\. Everyone knows that after a certain point, spending more money isn't going to make much of a difference. Sure, the bang-for-buck ratio goes down the drain but here at ocn the motto is the pursuit of performance.
OP is set on spending a lot for his laptop so we might as well help him

I'm not going to buy extra monitors. I just need one, simple, powerful laptop. It honestly doesn't need to have ridiculous pricing. Just, powerful and mobile, allowing me to game at great frame rates, live stream at 1080p and record at 1080p.

Just go to Alienware and grab an M18X, basically any variant will kick games ass. A sweet config should be under $3000.

I maxed it out with everything you can upgrade in the config, it is like $6100.
